We all know the character of those we "hang with". If I misjudged them that badly, I'd take the blame if I tossed them the keys by mistake.

After seeing this post for a few days I really started to wonder what I would do.  I started to put my various friends in the situation and I can't think of a single one that would take it for a drive without me begging.  None would put themselves in a "let's see what this thing can do" situation. So I guess this question becomes an affirmation of the good bunch of people I hang out with.

Well now Jimmie....I weren't really speakin of my C3VR friends.....I was speaking more of local folks.
My C3VR family is a different story all together! I'd let any of ya'll drive either one of mine. Well...except maybe Albo....he's a little crazy.....

I'm with Joel on the C3VR crowd - I would probably let any of you take my car out - you folks already understand and respect these machines.  As for my other friends - I agree with Dave & Gilbert....it's only a car (mine's a driver too).  But I'm certainly not going to toss the keys to someone I don't trust.  I've let several local friends drive her for a short jaunt - brings a smile to to their faces.

I would expect that all damage and related issues would be covered by that friend. As a boating safety instructor once said, "there are very few 'accidents', most are incidents that could have been avoided, but a choice was made."

Well, I did and he did!!!

I let a friend drive it, I was with him. It was just around the parking lots at a county park. He went slow. But when he went to park it, I started saying, "don't get to close to the curb because my front spoiler is real low"

Never got the full sentence out of my mouth and he ran the spoiler into the rocks smashing it into 2 pieces. He felt real bad, and offered to pay for it. I said don't worry, its a car. I took it home ,fiber glassed it back together, painted it and had it back on the "Beast" in 3 days.

Not only did he feel bad, but he was extremely embarrassed because about 15 of our friends and our wives were all right there in the parking lot and watched him do it!!

A year later he still gets razzed for it !!

He said he wont drive it again. LOL

Now I want to say, it is just a car. I built it to drive and enjoy. Now I am careful with it.

I have let a lot of people drive the "Beast". (I am in the car with them) I love watching the pure joy and excitement in their face as they drive it. I will give a ride to just about anybody that asks. I love letting little kids get in it and seeing the burn of "I want one of these when I grow up" look! Ignite the dream young in them of what a real car is! Not some rice burner. Well In think I've said enough !

It's good that you didn't let him pay for it. That give you the rights to razz him for it forever! 

I let three people drive my car! Me-Myself and I. Never have an argument about who is going to drive it when they use it either.
