Topic: Wheels, a poll of sorts...
in Forum: C3 General Discussion
Adam's Apple, Ron 78 and others have commented (and I agree) that the wheels on my new ride need upgrading. Am open to, and sure would appreciate your suggestions guys and gals what you think would sort of finish off the look of the new buggy - wheels and rubber. I'll check them out and find a local dealer that carries them.
Thanks all...

Anouther "period correct" look would be a set of slotted alum. rims, like the old Anson "Sprints". My '74 had a set of the Ansons on it when I bought it, and they were installed at the dealer when the car was new. I should've kept them.

There is such a wide range of looks that would be cool on that car; it's gonna be hard to pick your favorite!!

Your car looks familiar. Were you a winning bidder on Ebay by chance? I'd swear I saw it for sale there not too long ago!
As for me, I agree that the Anson Sprints would look good, but I'm also partial to the turbine wheels like Eric76 has. I just bought a set earlier this year from Ebay to refinish and put on my Pride and Joy.
I think you should search Ebay under "corvette wheels" for a set of nice BLACK rims. Take the focus off the wheels and put it back on the car where it belongs.
Either way you go, we'll all want to see pics when you've made your selection and installed them.
Psychedelic thing going on.

Thanks for all the replies. Lots of great information and ideas, and it seems everybody is about on the same page.
Joel - The S/S is probably the way to go. We all owe a lot to Roy Richter as the grandfather of custom mags, and his first (S/S) is still the most successful custom wheel that has ever been offered. A lot of my muscle cars in the 60's and 70's wore them, but I did run a few with Ansen's on them too (chrome deep-dish moonies on the 40's & 50's buggies).
Mike - Another good suggestion, thanks. BTW, love the clean look of your ride too.
Mark - Yep, you got it. Stole it off Ebay with a buy it now worked out with the seller right after a friend who lives near him drove / thoroughly checked it out for me. Eric's ride looks great with the turbines... but to me anyway they go better on a "sinful beast" Vette that's shear power makes it the king of the road. I don't think the S/S or Ansen's would take anything away from this road cruiser - might be the turbines wouldn't either. Maybe I'll buy another newer big block Vette for racing since my local club does so many road races and drags along with the rallies and parties.
Matthew - Kind of fits maybe... I lived in Haight-Ashbury during the Summer of Love (67) as a last fling before Uncle gave me an all expense paid to VN. Paint IS period correct for those days, and the opalescent clear coat will really refleck all the neon we have in The Capitol of Sin.
Kevin - I totally agree - old school and stock size. Am leaning to the S/S so far myself too. With the outlay for wheels and tires, do want to get it right the first time.
Ron - Ditto the S/S. But can you believe the stocking dealers are all in Northern Nevada and none in Vegas? Might have to make the maiden voyage a trip north.
Thanks again for all the input gents - I do appreciate them. I'll keep checking back to see if I get some more suggestions before its time to buy.

Maybe this isn't the place to discuss this, but...
When is someone going to create a program similar to the new paint programs you see in all the Home Depot and Lowe's stores where you can post a pic of your ride and start swapping rims to see which you favor most before buying?
If someone knows of a site that offers this already, please point us all in the right direction.
You know, you should be able to identify the area of the rim on the vehicle as the part of the picture that will be overwritten with your choice of mag wheel, click on the wheel you want, and VOILA...your car has been outfitted and you can make an informed decision without shelling out hundreds, or thousands of dollars first.
It just makes sense to me, then the Varmint could show us what he's going to go with before actually purchasing.
Any programmers out there want to tackle this task if it hasn't been already? Would be a cool addition to the site!
Mark,
Wouldn't it be nice...
Writing the program itself wouldn't be that hard, nor even adding a spinner to it. Getting together the database images would be another story. Broadside scaled views of all Corvette bodystyles and options for every year made, of every factory and custom color for body and interior (as well as possible fields for stripes, two-tone, roof, etc.) and of every actual factory and custom wheel that'll fit a Corvette (not to mention sizes or wheel profiles). Whew - good luck.
OK, maybe you could use a generic Corvette "C" outline, approximate basic colors and generic wheel patterns instead of actual images... but that's not the way Vette owners do things you know.
