OK here i am again, testing your gray cells, i have an oil leak, OK so it's a Vette what did i expect, well i didn't expect the rocker panels to leak OIL
, OK i know the rocker panel isn't leaking but it is dripping off the passanger side rocker panel and i believe it may be coming from whatever that big black thing is just inside the firewall on the passanger side?
SO really what i am asking is what is that thing ?, could it be leaking ?, and do i need it ? and lastly if it is not that what the heck is causing oil to drip from my rocker panels?
Thanks
Gary

Have you checked the passengers side floor boards? Are they wet? If so I would suspect that the heater core is leaking and somehow making its way over the rocker panel. Kind of far fetched but just offering up ideas. Good luck and let us know what you find out.

There is nothing INSIDE the firewall that will leak motor oil it's self. The A/C could have a leaky condenser and drip it's oil inside, but this is clear to yellow to grey when it's dirty, black when it's real bad. Is it motor oil? Transmission oil? manual or automatic?
It's probably coming from a major component. I have seen where oil will wick or travel through an electrical wire or vacuum line and leak inside the car. Odd but it happens. Line to the oil pressure gauge leaking?
How much oil are we talking, and what type do you suspect?
Chances are it's blowing back from the engine and dripping down. I would start looking at valve covers, oil pan, and both crank seals, then the trans seals.

HHMM maybe the way i described the location mislead, the item (what ever it is)that i think is leaking is in the engine compartment on the passanger side on the firewall, and the 'Stuff" dripping off the rocker panel appears to be engine oil.
does that help ?,
does that help ?,
Ken helped me out on this one a while back. Maybe this will help, and a couple post's already lead to that.
Maybe........ I parked after a little drive, and grabbed some chow. Came back out 3 hours later, and a puddle right behind the passenger side tire. What is this? The new accumulator did not have the fitting's tightened up. I expected the dude who did the work to at least fix it right. Took to "another" shop, fixed right. The liquid was a slimy clear type.
Ken did hit it right.

There are tracer dyes for the various systems. All you need to do is put some of it the system and use a Black light to trace it to its source.

The tracer dye is the way to go. Had a leak on the rt side ...covered most of the engine. I cleaned off the engine put in the dye & found the leak dip stick to oil pan. This can save alot of time.
