Vette(s): 1968 Convertible
Since I was a kid I have dreamed about stumbling across a little old lady trying to sell an early model convertible vette.  It is sitting in a barn, in great condition, and she just wants someone to come take it away.

Now, the dream is not about swindling a sweet old woman.  It's about finding hidden treasure.  With the popularity of vettes in combination with the amount of info available on the internet, I doubt I will ever find my little old lady.

Are there any hidden treasure stories out there?

Last I heard, that little old lady was tearing up the roads in Pasadena!!

I'm always hearing of these barn finds, too. Some are gems, some are trash....all of the ones I ever actually see are trashed....

I saw a couple of early Sharks at the Pate Swap Meet this weekend. From 20' they were nice. Up close, you could see they had just been painted, but the rest of the car was junk, or missing a ton of parts. But....they sure looked good from across the isle!

Well, Now that you mention it, I've had a story just this last week. A family of guys, whose chain saws I work on ( I knew their dad before he past away) came to me 2-3 wks ago and explained that the oldest brother had a '75 vette he meant to sell. I told them I was broke but out of curiosity, how much $. He explained it's poor condition (front and back bumpers broken ) and said he had been trying to sell it for a while but didn't find much interest. Now he basically wants to find it a good home with someone who appreciates what it is ( '75, 4 spd, L82) and will restore it. He mentioned it was an odd green Dead. "I'M YOUR MAN" I said. He thought about it for a bit and said he'd get back to me. In the mean time I e-mailed him a list of my worldly posessions in hopes of tempting a trade and he seemed interested. The car had been sitting in a field in L A and had been transported to Brisbane ,Ca. and then to Valley Springs where it once again sat tarped (barely) in a field under a tree. His brother who owned the property came by to pickup a saw I fixed for him and offered to show me the car, he was anxious to get it off his property. It was way out in the "boonies". When we untarped it, I couldn't believe it, it was "Elkhart Green". The front and back bumpers were broken, just from the sun, with chunks falling off them. He said he would start it for me, and while I retrieved the keys from under the front carpet he called his brother to get his permission to haul it off, as ther were animals taking it over Cry. Rat crap deep all over the seats and places and spider webs claiming all else. Fighting the webs to lay the seat back forward, I found no battery so we decided to pop the hood just to look, but as I got it up a few inches we heard the rustling of some thing alive and big. I dropped the hood. Rethinking it, there couldn't have been any "Lions or Tigers or Bears (Oh My)" up in there so I got my courage up again and lifted the hood. A large jack rabbit about killed himself getting out of there and off he went. He had chewed all the ign. wires in two and who knows what else. What a mess. I left and haven't heard from him again so he must have changed his mind, but the way I see it, better him than me. Sometimes you have to wonder if some are worth the money to restore Confused Ouch. I won't feel bad if he never calls me Unhappy.
