Bowling Green has kept records of the cars built there since late '81...anything before that there are no records. At least, that's what GM keeps saying. There are some files left...just no-one knows where.
Is there anyway to contact GM with the production sequence number to see where it was shipped to the orginal dealer?
Yeah, for $50 you can get a copy of the original dealer invoice from GM Media Archives. Here's what ya get. I was lucky enough to get mine when they were first found a couple years ago, free! 77 and newer only! http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2004-4/706755/invoice.jpg
mkapp7879... tried GM Media Archives and the http and couldn't find your site... could you help me out with some more info on obtaining an invoice? For what it's worth, my car had the front and rear spoilers that matched the car, dark brown... mirror T-tops Anyone seen a 79 with spoilers??? Don
vehicleinvoice@gmmediaarchive.com Give em your name and info and the Vette VIN and they'll get back to you with how to pay, etc
My white 79 has the factory spoilers
mkapp.... ok, sent them the email.... If your 79 had factory spoilers, then it must have been a real late 79 like mine. The guy who sold me the car new said spoilers would come out in 1980. I guess they but they appear a lot smaller than the one's on my old car.
My white 79 was a May production, but the "Pace Car" style spoilers offered in 79 were a year long option, RPO D80, ordered by 6853 buyers. The 80-82 spoilers were an integral part of the bumper instead of added on. Mike
Hey Don!
Concerning DMV; every state is different. I've asked similar questions here a while ago and I then contacted FL. If I remember correctly, Florida can do "some" in-dept search and you pay by the number of listings that come out; granted that those are only for registered vehicule.
As pointed out on this thread, there's a tool for all the Vettes registered here, but there is also a map by State. Find the top 10 States where there are the most Vettes registered and contact DMV of those States. That could be a start. Of course, you will mostly have to pay for most of them and hope the car is registered.
Good Luck!
mkapp.... never got a response from my email for the GM archives. Still chasing leads...
Don, put in a request myself using the VIN you posted at the top of this thread last Friday, May 4. Got a reply today. It is available. PM or email me your email address and I'll forward what they sent me. Mike
