Vette(s): 1979 L82 T-tops, chocolate brown metalic, light tan leather interior, mirror T's
Hello all...  I purchased a new 1979 Brown L82 with T-tops in Kansas City, Mo.  In 1980 I moved to Texas and with the crash of the stock market and intrest rates around 18% I sold my Vette to a Chevy Dealer in N. Houston.

I have finally found what I believe to be my old Vette's VIN number:

1Z8749S449657    which came off some old micro-fish from a Kansas City Police report when it was stolen the first week I had it....  Any suggestions will be appreciated....  Don't know if it's still on the road...,  Don

Vette(s): 1971 convertible,375 HP 350ci,Muncie 4-speed,Edelbrock aluminum heads and RPM air-gap manifold,HEI distrubiter - old school mechanical tach drive. LOUD side exhaust!
You might check with the DMV in TX to see if you can do a title search - some states allow it and some don't. If you could find the person who bought it after you you might be able to pick up the trail...

Good luck! Thumbs%20Up

Well, it's not registered here...I just checked...
You might try an ad in Hemmings Motor News, or the NCRS Driveline...

Thanks...  Seems like it dropped off the face of the earth... but what the heck... it's been 27 years...  I'll try the DMV check next...

Joel, is there anyway to search the registry for 79 by color and see if any are close to my build number?  The last 3 numbers on the micro-fish are kind of blurred you know, a 3 looks like a 5 and a 7 looks like a 9 or so on. Talked to the KC Police and their mico-fish reader was just as blurred as my copy.....

Do ya really want to find it? Who knows what's been done to it in 27 years!

I sold my first 78SA back in 91, regretted it for years and decided to find another one. I like the one I have now a lot better. L82 and loaded compared to the old one with L48 with few options. I DO check VIN numbers whenever I see one for sale on ebay, not that I'd ever try to get it back. Just out of curiosity.  Good luck with your search, tho.

There is a 1979 registry, but not that many cars listed over there. Try googling 1979 Corvette Registry.

If you want a 79 I suggest you look at this one, I stumbled across it yesterday, I was half tempted to go take a look. It's only about 5 miles from me. But I don't think the wife would like me bringing home another one, no more room at the inn.Smile

Don, at the tops of the forum pages, you will see a bar. Click on it(or click on this one), and click on the C3 Registry Data.(or click on this link)
You can do a search of all of the Sharks registered here, by several different methods. Color, engine size, etc.
Check it out! It's fun!

I did not see a '79 this morn. that was close to your old car's VIN, tho...Adams' Apple2007-04-25 21:23:06

Is there anyway to contact GM with the production sequence number to see where it was shipped to the orginal dealer?
