I purchased my 1974 Coupe on E-Bay over a year ago from a private owner. Car was exactly as described right down to the stone chips. There were things wrong with the car... all described in the listing. Plenty of high quality pictures. I talked to the owner on the phone and he mentioned the car was NCRS Top Flight 2 times (it was his fathers car who passed away some years ago). I asked if he had the judging sheets and if he would fax them. I had them 15 minutes later. The car was judged in 1996 and 1999. All the defects listed on the judging sheets were the same as the items in the listing. The car was driven less than 1000 miles since 1999. The NCRS judging sheets were the clincher.
I did spend quite a few bucks on repairs (AC, interior, etc.) but these were in my upfront budget.
Overall, I was scared as hell about the E-bay purchase as I paid high but fair $. But I'm happy and the car has Top Flighted again since.

I bought a mid-year on Ebay about a year ago- BUT I drove 2½ hours to go look at it first. The seller had posted MANY pictures and seemed honest BUT I had to see it first. Wouldn't do it any other way. The car really had been sitting in a shed- and he had owned it since 1974- BUT again the descriptions & pics were not like seeing it in person.
A friend of mine bought a 91 conv on Ebay, Sight unseen- Flew up to pick it up and the problems followed as he drove it home. Not at all what was described by a seemingly honest seller.
I would look BEFORE I buy!!!

I just picked up my 75 coupe on E-bay. 500 miles away. It's rough and I knew it would be. No paint, owner bought it that way and never started the motor. Interior was removed. He said everything was there but the rear window. I am missing some other pieces, not sure what all as of yet. Only had the car home 24 hours. I did get it running and the engine and trans are good. The body is good. The interior is less than expected, I thought the parts would be better. Some ar pretty bad. No metion of the cracked windshield. It only has 53,169 miles. I paid 3,350. It came home with my sisters Blazer and a U-Haul tow dolly. My Dad rode along with me.
So some is better than I thought, some worse. I guess I did get basicly what I paid for, but not quite. Still, it's a nice project, which is what I wanted. It's going to be great when I'm done. (Years from now) I should have it painted and driveable sometime this summer.

Bought my '79 on the dreaded E-Bay......It was exactly as the seller advertised it, he e-mailed gobs of pictures, I drove the 100 miles to see it.......It was, exactly as he said, exactly as the pictures showed, a great driver......no two numbers matched, crate engine, etc. (with every receipt he had since '98.....)
I've had NO trouble buying off e-bay (I'm a military collector, and buy a lot!)
Research it, and go for it !

I can share my recent story- several months ago I purchased a '71 Coupe from Wisconsin, paid a good price, and was scared to spend that much money on pictures. I am happy with the car- it was as represented; had the car insured and shipped back to Pennsylvania; I am very pleased...Dave

Mine was listed in Excite, but it's the same difference, buying from description and pics just no auction. Go see the car. Two or three hundred dollars spent on a plane ticket can save thousands spent on bad judgment ( the bad judgement being taking someone's else's word for condition ).
From what I have seen, most stuff on e-bay is listed with enough lead time for you to go see it before the auction is over. You can also find out or at least get an idea of what the reserve is and possibly buy it on the spot and not get burnt by a last second overbid.

I purchased a 1970 Corvette on E-bay.. It turned out to be a complete BASKET CASE.. The frame was completely rusted thru. I tried to get the person who sold the car to resend the sale, but as you might expect,, he wasn't about to do that,, he had UNLOADED the car on some fool and he was scott free.. Now almost two years later the car is finished,, New frame, rebuilt engine,, new paint job,, new interior.. and of course,, the law suit is still on going..
NEVER BUY anything from E-bay without an inspection and an escape clause.
