I have American Collectors, but after next month they can shove it! After 3 yrs with them insuring my '77,someone hit me head-on,& totalled it.So with the other drivers insurance,I have a '79 I got a deal on.I mistakenly told them I paid $9000 fot it-NADA website value is $17,000 & I wanted $15,000.They said they would only insure for what I paid! Signing up with Grundy next month for what I asked from Am. Coll. for $224/month. |saluteflag|

Vette(s): 1979 corvette l-82 4-speed t tops no a/c canadian car
hey whats up im 21 too and i have a 79 corvette. Ive tried every collector car ins there can be. Ive contacted idependent insurances and they could not help me either. Luckilly my last ticket will be wiped clean in feb this year so i can finnally get classic car ins. So you basicly have to wait it out untill your tickets are cleared from your record. I have geico and my everyday driver is a 94 caprice. What i do in the winter is just take my vettes liability off my plan and just add comprehensive. It comes to be about 150 a year but if someone did hit me in the summer i probly would have a hard time getting what i want for the car. you just have to sit and wait like i did.

Soxx35 insurance companies are pretty smart. They know that a 21 year old with a vette is not using it only to take to shows and for the occasional pleasure drive. That is why their insurance is cheap. It is limited coverage. If you do get collector coverage beware. Insurance companies will take your money quickly but getting them to pay is another story. They will look for policy violations that will get them off the hook.

Remember insurance is only good if you can collect when you have a claim. If you try to deceive them you are only deceiving yourself. As a 21 year old with a vette you are a high risk candidate for insurance and will have to pay accordingly. That's life.

Try a State Farm "Stated Value" policy.

I currently have American Collectors.
Would only insure the appraised value.
I've gone online to Haggerty and Grundy.
Grundy was lower, with higher liability.
I'll be swithching at renewal time !!!!

Vette(s): 1974 T-Top, L-48, all original, 63000 miles
I have a stock 1974 T-Top and just went with Hagerty for $110.00 a year. I had GEICO at $185.00 per 1/2 year and that didn't include collision.

The Hagerty value was set at $8000.00
I paid $6000.00 when I bought it.

Brandon, there is no easy answer...

Please don't get bent out of shape with the comments you read here... WE ARE ON YOUR SIDE!! We are not Insurance Agencies or State Troopers... and.. we were all 21 once. I'm 45 and have had my 69 for about 2 years, and thrilled with it. You, on the other hand are rather young (compared to most of us old vette geezers) and unfortunately have some issues with your driving record.. We all have in the past. It's one of the many reasons I never considered a Vette until recently. Other reasons are four kids and a wife, and a house, and private schools, and college tuition, etc. etc. etc... Things you haven't had the pleasure of dealing with yet..

My recommendation:

Keep looking for a reasonable alternative for your insurance needs. We all hope you can find one.

Don't sell your Vette (You'll regret it sooner than later, and it will cost you a lot more to get a C3 in 10 years or so)

Maybe store it for a while, and check into your points situation. When do they "come off" your record? Pass this info on to the Insurance folks, and let them know you are serious about finding a solution.

Possibly "sell" your Vette to your Mom, Dad, or Older Brother, Sister, etc. This sounds a little shady, but it might clear the way for insurance.

Drive carefully from now on.. 5 over is still speeding..

Good luck, sorry there is no Magic answer.. Be patient, you'll appreciate the $125.00/year full coverage when you finally get it.. I know I do..

Mike
