Vette(s): 1971 Corvette Stingray, 350. Edelbrock everything:)
I'm having difficulty with my insurer, USAA, in getting my vette insured for more than 1000$..... after having invested nearly 20K into "him". When contacted, they explained they don't do appraisals, and that the car is only worth its depreciated value based on MSRP... in 1971! Any idea of an agency to turn to? I don't qualify for the classic or collector stuff... 7pts and 21yrs old. I'm pretty desperate and need to find a solution to, at the very least, calm my nerves. After my Honda was vandalized, i realized it coulda been my vette, and thats just unacceptable!!

Collector would have been a good bet. Without that, it's going to be tough. Most companies won't insure just a Corvette, they want all your business. I would call an independent agent and see what they can find.

BrandonS:

I have only my 82 vette insured through Haggerty Insurance. I am 49 years old and with a clean driving record. They charge me approximately $324.00 for the entire year. The car is insured for the appraised value which I paid $150.00 to get and sent an original copy to Haggerty for their files. If this car is totaled I will receive the full appraised value and not some depreciated lower amount. This is what my premium payment covers. The car is driven only for recreation and not to work. It is also garaged. My other two vehicles are insured with another totally separate insurance carrier...hope this helps.

I have both my '78 Silver Anniversary and my '69 427/435 roadster, along with my '67 Dodge Charger insured through American Collectors Insurance. Never had a problem with the amounts I'm insuring them for, but I've never made a claim either. No deductible, and an automatic inflation increase to coverage.

There are a few restrictions with the policies, but nothing excessive or that can't be lived with. They've been very easy to deal with and the rates are more than reasonable.

Vette(s): 81 Silver/Drk Blue, #684 made in Bowling Green 67xxx miles 87 Maroon metal, lots of miles but very fast and solid
How about us guys that drive our vettes every day?

The collector insurance is great but I need a good deal on insurance for M-F as well.

I currently have three cars insured with Geico, I discussed they value with them and they assured me that they would cover the car for the market value not some book value. The bad news... I'm paying more for the vette than I am for my wifes 2000 Durango.

1981, two tone, blue/silver, true dual, #684 from bowling green, 66,894 miles

Thnx E-hodges. You basically beat me to it!:) I have no desire to drive my vette only on the weekends, truth be told, i drive it 8-10k miles a year. I need to find a company that will insure my vette for at 10k miles a year under a plan that will cover me up to $20k. I'll check gieco, but they are pretty tuff to. They are one of the stricter insurance companies out there when it comes to rates. We'll see though. Still looking for more input on this one!

If you want to drive it a lot you are going to have to go with one of the regular insurers. I have Farm Buearu in Temnnessee and they said since I had my house and other cars with them they would insure it with a yearly appraisal, but rates will be similar to a brand new Vette (about $300+/month with no tickets now in over 10 years). Neither Gieco nor State Farm are going to want to insure an 21 year old with lots of points on a Corvette, they didn't want me at 25 with a wife, a steady job, a college degree, and 2 tickets (6 points) for a pickup truck and a Caprice. Still say contact an independant insurer and let them shop it. Don't take this the wrong way, but an 21 year old with a Corvette and a handfull of tickets is exactly the stereotype that gives Corvette owners a bad name.

Well, i havn't really picked up much information here that helps me very much. As for the comment on me giving vette owners a bad name... thats too bad you think that way. None of my tickets were in my vette, all of them were in my Honda, an s2000. Moreover, the tickets were for between 5 and 10 over, the only exception being one for 16 over on my way to college..... cop got me and my mom and hour apart! I'm a pretty pissed of 21 yr old as i can tell you that my pts have very little to do with how i drive as to what i drive. My honda is much more of a magnet than my other car, an oldsmobile. I drive the olds at least 50% of the time and have NEVER gotten a ticket in it. Driving the same way in the honda nets me 4 tickets. Its been over a year now since my last one, and have just decided that it isn't even safe to stay up with traffic when in the honda or the vette. Now the only car i dare even go 5 over in is the olds. Not that anyone really wanted to here all that, i just don't take to kindly to being referred as one of those people... especially when its one of those people that give vette owners a bad name. I've only had my vette for 3 months, but i have yet to here of this bad name you mentioned. Even more, i'm sorry to disappoint you..... i don't give vette owners a bad name. Happy new year |laugh| |thumb|

Hagerty covers mine at $20,000 agreed value for 175 a year. There are mileage restrictions and the car must be garaged in a locked garage when not in use. They would probably let you go with 10,000 mile a year but your tickets and age will certainly count against you. They also require the other vehicles you own to carry a seperate insurance plan.
