As far as I am concerned you honestly do not own a Stingray.
....The Factory simply did not place a emblem (Stingray) on 68's or any Corvette manufactured after the 1976 model year. so 77's are not Stingrays..
However:
I understand that "some" of the advertizing material did however refer to the 77 as a Stingray... and a few people will say that since GM approved that wording in the add then they approved ...
If you want to call your 77 a Stingray.. DO IT ...

My brother has 77 and it has Sting Ray on the side just like my 76. In the black book it does say 76 was the last year for Sting rays. But of course chevrolet may have had bodies of 76 left over for 77, what do you think?
So it sounds as if it was Chevrolet's mistake!

Documentatiom from GM confirms that some early '77s had the "Stingray" emblems on the fenders, but it was not intended to. The instructions to the line (assy. plant) were not in place when the first '77s came down the line.
Some were also installed at the dealer level, if the customer requested, as they were for the '68s after the '69s came out with 'Stingray' emblem.
If anyone has an assy. man. for the '77, look & see if they were included in the 'ornamentation' section, and if so, what is the date on the page?
Technically, the '77s were not called "Stingray", but simply "Corvette". In the end, does it really matter?
