Vette(s): Silver 1974 Convertible - L82 4 speed Low miles (was only 8,900 when I bought it in March 2006) - Now 54K miles. Original owner bought it as an investment for son's college expenses. 2008 Jetstream Blue Convertible
I'm looking at a couple of windows (driver and passenger side) on e-bay.  The seller says they have a code of M74.

My car was built mid-March 1974.  What codes would be valid for my car?

I'm just thinking that it wouldn't be a bad idea to have a couple of appropriate date coded windows in storage just in case one of mine ever broke.

Sorry fellers....I been sickerndog....Dead
The "M74" is NOT the glass date....it simply designates the use of the glass as a Corvette side glass.

Windows are dated as such...
Soft-Ray   Flo-Lite
Safety
AS2           DATE CODE
   Solid Tempered
DOT 15 M74(This designates Corvette Side window)

The date code will be 2 letters...the first designating the Month, the second designating the year.

Example: JL =May '74
The months codes are:
N= January
X
L
G
J
I
U
T
A
Y
C
V= December

Year codes are:
Y= '72
U= '73
L= '74

(LATE production '74s had side glass without the "Astro Ventilation" script, starting in June/July of '74. Earlier cars/glass will have the "Astro Ventilation" script)

See if he can get you the right letters to de-code the glass before buying. You could look at the glass on your car now and find the appropriate date to look for, but I would guess you would want an XL or LL for a March-built car.

Now that I know what to look for, I just checked mine and found "NL"

I'll check with the seller to see what hers are

Thanks Joel!

A January date would be correct/"acceptable" for a March built car. My '74 is a June 27 build with all May dated windows...windershield, side, and back. It also has the side glass with no "Astro Ventilation" script. Does your March car have "Astro Ventilation" on the side winders?

Yes, I have Astro markings.  The e-bay listing also says the windows also say Astro.

I didn't know that those stopped in mid-74!  Just another thing that makes that year unique...

Oops.  I just checked the listing again, and it does not specify "Astro."  I think I must have assumed that.  And when I look at the pix, I don't think I see the marking.

Dang it!  Not that I need the windows, but the price was right at $30 a piece.  Even if not the right date code, I'll bet I couldn't find a new replacement one that cheap if I did need one.

I'll see.  Still waiting on a response from the seller
