Okay here I am again with a novice question. When I start up the vette the wiper door opens and then closes. Is this the way it is suppose to be? All of my vaccumn parts such as headlights and the wiper door just snap into place with out any problem, should this be of any concern since it works so well. Also I have not spent any amount of time on this and I am not that handy with a wrench, any common trouble with the 5 port washer on the 70 LT1. I push it and I hear it but it don"t get wet. knew some one like that once, any way thank you all for share and helping, always wanted one now I have it.....

your wiper door problem is a matter of a vaccum leak somewhere...
use a vacuum pump to test your check valve and canister, if they are good... starting checking every component in the following diagram

When I got my LT-1 the vac.sys. was just about shot, when I started my car the wiper door would do the same thing, plus the head lights would do it to, I had a couple leaky relays, amoung other things, check the wiper door relay, whats happening is until enough vac. is built up in the tank to equalize the system a leaky relay will fluxuata between open and close until equalazation overcomes the leak

if it is the actuator relay which is a very very common problem... than try to use some 3in1 oil on it..
take the relay off and turn it upside down..
squirt some 3in1 oil on the rubber cylinder and let it soak in.. the rubber gets dry rotted and letting it soak in some oil will sometimes improve seal so it doesnt leak between ports..
if the actuator side of it (small hose) leaks i think you will need to replace
but if the leak is port to port.. the oil can help
ive seen a site where they recommend some kind of rubber reconditioning product.. but ive never used it..

Oh yeh, take apart the five port washer, check for crude in the check valves, they are the umbrella shaped rubber, also check the o-rings, they might have dryed up and shrunk, auto parts have repair kits for them.

Here is a good vacuum diagram that should help you in checking your vacuum lines and locating everything.
