I do all my own work, that is the reason I purchased it. I really enjoy working on the older cars.

Last night I was up till 10:45 replacing the motor mount. The night before I was playing with the timing.

Next major job is upper ball joints.

I need to do the uppers too, have never done them before - but will certainly give it a shot. I'm wondering though, what else I "might as well do" while I'm in there? The never ending fun of enjoying a 30 year old car.

Keep having fun!

Vette(s):
SOLD - "The Toy" - '70 Convertible
SOLD - "The Beast" - '90 ZR-1 (#682)
SOLD - "Betty" - '28 Ford Model A Tudor
SOLD - "BLKBRRD" - '78 Pontiac Trans Am
"BLUBYU" - '04 Coupe
I try to do as much as possible on the family fleet.  The cost of taking anything to a shop is one reason, but the other is that I like the time in the garage.  Guess you could consider it a hobby that pays back in saving a bit of cash and also gaining the experience of wrenching on different things.

I've asked; she has accepted.  No two ways about it, she can turn a wrench with the best of us.  She is rebuilding the original engine for her '71.  I answer the occasional question and do the heavy lifting.
Interesting thread.  Thumbs%20Up  I try do do ALL of the work on my baby.  Only take it in when absolutely necessary.  And finding a good mechanic is like finding a needle in a haystack. Owning an old Vette is a challenge.

The advice and expertise (yeah, I said expertise; what was I thinkin'??) on this forum makes it possible.  Right now I'm struggling with TAs and entire rear suspension. Lord help me!!! Will probably require some professional work (like TAs and wheel bearings).

In a previous life I restored two C2s and then sold them.  Boy am I sad that I did!  Unhappy
Trailing arms are very tricky, without the tools. Some things should be left for the experts (but as you said.....who and where are they?) I'm glad that you like the thread, I must have struck a nerve, or there's nothing else to do. I hope you made big $$$ on the C2's. I had a 64, 65 (396), 66 (427).........sure wish I would have them now. The 64 was stolen from the dealer (9 months old) Good luck with your work on the C3.Thumbs%20Up
Remember to wear your body armor doing the ball joints. I hope that you realize that Corvette riveted them and the rotors also. They must have thought...........no-one is ever going to have to do anything, or everyone was a big-time racer. Have fun, but keep the blood and swearing to a minimum............
I really hope that the people that can't work on their own cars aren't offended by this. It wasn't at all meant to chastigate. We all LOVE our Vettes..........that's for sure. I'm surprised that many enjoy being bloodied, using a lot of bad language, and at times totally wasting buckets of $$$. Those that find a trusted mechanic, who does the right job the first time and is willing to use parts brought in from other sources, or not gouging them............has to feel lucky or smart in their choice. Too bad we all don't live near Dallas........................
Confused Why? What's goin' on near Dallas? Does Micki work on cars? Wink

I've done some stuff on my C3.  I don't have all the tools to work on it, but If I did, I would ask Joel to show me.........he doesn't live that far away.  My husband doesn't want me to work on cars (says it's too dangerous).  Go figure......Wacko
