I've done some stuff on my C3. I don't have all the tools to work on it, but If I did, I would ask Joel to show me.........he doesn't live that far away. My husband doesn't want me to work on cars (says it's too dangerous). Go figure......Wacko
Micki, I think it pretttttty cool for women to even do some stuff on their cars...........isn't driving them (crazy) also sometimes dangerous?

Yep, that's true too......it could be dangerous. Sometimes I get told not to drive my Poop-On crazy, that if I wreck it, he doesn't want to hear me cryin' about it (I would be cryin'Cry). What's that C/W song........Cryin' Time Again......?LOL

Vette(s): 1982 C3 Collectors Edition 44000 miles, sat in the sun most of its life, My wife purchased it for me for Father's Day in 2007 from her girlfriend that had it for 19 years. It is on the road again. I'm retired but it is now my daily driver.
Do the work I cannot get my bother-in-law to do. He rebuild my Caddi engine once.  My son-in-law is a Ford mechanic.  I have plans for him.  Mostly I use you guys on the difficult stuff and do the rest myself.

As long as I'm not breaking stuff when I'm trying to fix it, I try to do as much as I can. This is my first vette, so for me it's all a learning experience. Luckilly I got two really good corvette shops close by. I go to the one in Puyallup and I darn near take notes when I'm there cause I get a class in whatever I'm working on or whatever they got in the bay at the time. Between C3VR and there I'm pretty squared away so I'm fairly confident that I can tackle pretty much anything. One thing I really want to learn is body and paint work, I just aint got the guts to start learning on my shark. 79rebuild2008-04-29 03:11:34

I do what I can in the time that I have, but I'd rather drive it than work on it.
I have a couple of mechanics I trust, but they are as scarce as hens teeth.

I'm sure he means it's too dangerous FOR THE CARS!!!

I do all of the stuff I need to do on all of our "fleet"...the only thing I don't do is paint...I don't have a place to do that, or I'd be skwertin everything in sight!!
The only exceptions to this would be if I'm short on time, and I knew someone else that I could trust to do it...
But....then again...this is what I do fer a livin, so my "vote" don't really count....Adams' Apple2008-05-01 05:11:12

Vette(s): White '79 Corvette. It's a driver.

Luckily I found a decent mechanic in my area that had a few Corvettes and other GM muscle cars in the past.

He allows me to stand right there and even turn a wrench during work on my car. I get to ask all the questions I want as long as I buy lunch. A pretty good arrangement!Big%20smile

When it's time for a test drive I get to go along and then drive it with the mechanic in the passenger seat.

I'll never be a real 'gear head' or anything like that, but I REALLY enjoy actually seeing for myself and learning how different parts work together!

I'd rather that then just dropping it off and picking it up after it's all done.

I did most of the work on my car, such as the engine, vacuum/headlights and brakes.   I did have the radiator replaced by a mechanic just before I left for Hot Springs, because I didn't have much time nor anyone to help me take off the hood and to take out and put back in the radiator.  I could just see me drop one of them on the fender or something.   Gotta know when to let someone more experienced do the work.
