One of the reasons I purchased my '82 was its originality, as far as I have been able to tell not much was ever replaced (or is that maintained?).  The car is currently sitting on a set of white-outlined Good Year Eagle GTs that I don't think have been available in quite a while.  In the spring I'm going to replace those with some new BFGs, but instead of just tossing the old tires in the pile at the local tire place I wondered if they might be worth anything to anyone?

If they are more than 6 years old they are not safe! Someone may want them, but I don't think they are worth much at all.
Good luck with your '82.

Vette(s): Silver 1974 Convertible - L82 4 speed Low miles (was only 8,900 when I bought it in March 2006) - Now 54K miles. Original owner bought it as an investment for son's college expenses. 2008 Jetstream Blue Convertible

For someone planning to seriously show the car, I have heard of a number of people who keep original tires on separate rims and put them on at the shows so they can be judged as the original tires.

If you are not considering showing at that level, you might consider putting them up for sale, as someone else may be interested, although shipping would be difficult, I would think.

I wanted a Corvette my whole life, but I never dreamed of all the wonderful people I would meet because of it!

Original GM issued tires are valuable for owners of restored cars, for such as NCRS/Bloomington judging events. Keep them, or advertise them for sale as such. Some people will definitely buy them if they are in decent condition, for show only.

They are in pretty good shape and I could probably get another year of use out of them if I wanted to.  Definitely no bare spots, cords showing, things like that.  I also thought someone wanting to restore their car to NCRS standards might be interested.  I've eBayed and shipped plenty of wheels and tires via UPS  Wink

for driving the highway i certainly would'nt use such old tires anymore even though they look good.

on my (just rebuild)car i have yokohama tires that are .. i think 12 years old.. they look in perfect shape but i will replace them anyway.
as DaveM already said.. after 6 years is recommended to get new ones.

Right, I don't intend to keep them.  Just wanted to know if I was crazy by thinking I could get a little cash for them  Wacko  Does anyone know when these tires were last produced anyway?
