Well it is interesting. I thought that since the shift kit did make the shifts more firm, and responsive would make up for at least 1% of the drive train loss, since it all occurs at the tranny from the start. The friend I'm talking about used to own a 1990 rare Iroc. He sold it, and then got an SRT-4 (booo...) ever since then I think he has doubts, and his 4-banger buddies have brain-washed him into thinking that V8's (excuse my language) are for pussies. And are the worst form of engine. I hardly think not. I will admit that the 4-bangers push out an amazing punch for their size, but seriously.... a V-8 a joke? I think not my good sir... By the way here is some pics of my engine after I got it back today..

here are some pics of the bushing kit...

And finally, some pics of my sisters 2000 Ford Focus after the wreck...

I was hoping that maby someone could assist me in explaining what exactly 5.7 liter, and 4.3liter, and 2.0liter, ect, ect, ect... means. I have some sort of idea but I doubt that it is all correct. And were those dyno specs of the engine in the car with drivetrain loss, or out of the car with no drivetrain loss?

Thanks,
-Louis

I hope you gained some knowledge from your fellow C3 owners. None of us were born with this wisdom. Only by by listening, analyzing, and applying the information offered will you some day be giving advice to another generation of C3 Crazys.

By the way, can you take the plastic off and show us the engine on your next photo shoot? THX. |headscratch|

Well engine technology has come along way since the first generation small block chevy was designed but the principals remain the same. Air flow and volumetric efficency. If a engine of 4 cylinders can move the same volume of air with the proper combustion then it will produce about the same amount of HP that the engine of 8 cylinders can. In fact it might be more because of the less amount of friction in the engine from less moving pistons and rotating weight. The Neon srt-4 has a 2.4 liter 4 banger with a mitsubishi TD04 turbo that produces 10-14 psi boost. This turbo is like adding displacement to the 2.4 liter engine thus improving its ability to move volumes of air which in part makes more HP than a non turbo 4 banger 2.4 liter. Probably double the HP of the normally aspriated engine. Tell your buddys to imagine what would happen if you added 10-14 psi boost to your chevy 350. You asked what 5.7 liters means? Your engine is about 5.7 liters. This is simply the metric equivalent to 350 cubic inch displacment (CID). I hate the darn french metric system. Also (psi) is english standard, if you are french you would say BAR.( one BAR = 14.7 psi)

On paper the neon srt-4 is rated at 220 hp at 5100rpm and 245 ft-lbs at 2100rpm. Thats alot of low end grunt for a 2900 lbs car. Car and driver got the neon to do a 14.2 sec 1/4 mile. http://www.allpar.com/neon/neon-srt-4.html
Your vette will have about 256 hp at the rear wheels if you take in account the losses of your accessories and trans. This is not shabby at all. We will say your vette weighs 3400lbs. so that means your 1/4 mile should be about low 14's maybe high 13's. Depending on your gear ratio. Remember though your 1/4 mile will be reduced by 1/10th of a second for every 100 lbs off the car or driver. so if you go to the track lose weight on your car or your self to maximize the 1/4 time.

Part of the power loss is through the diff. Turning power 90 degrees cost some power loss. Transverse engines also lose some throught the final drive, but not near as much.

1 Litre is equal to 61.02 cubic inches. Now you can do the math either way. You will notice it almost never works out quite exact. The numbers are rounded off by the car makers. But they are close.

The cheaper oil pan is probably made of thinner metal, so less cost and still chrome. But this may not be true. Sometimes you have an aftermarket part much cheaper and still good quality. The pricy one may have the baffels to help control oil flow. Maybe not.
You will have to take a look at them, or ask those questions.

As for the opinion of your friend, well everyone has an opinion. Just look at the facts. Any one can claim anything they want. Do they know what they are talking about? Perhaps, but if so, they can back it up with numbers and facts. If not, well opinions are like a hind end. Everyone has one. And you know what often comes out of them.

Starting to come together. Hang in there. It's going to be nice. |thumb|

Yeah, sorry about the plastic wrap. I need to keep it covered because I don't have any valve covers, and an intake or carb to put on it. So I need to keep it nice and clean. I was informed I can't use synthetic oils, I can't go over 55MPH for the first 500MPH. Dude, how am I going to do that, it will take me like 50 years to get to that point. Anyway these posts were very informative, and I learned a lot. I think my fat@$$ needs to lose some weight or else my car will be like a steamboat. I find all this to be amazing; I don't know how to process all this new information. Today my friend and I took his SRT-4 from Las Vegas, to "The Original Tommy's" in BARSTOW, CA. Nice drive it was a 2 hour and 17 min trip. We made it there in 1 hour and 48 minutes; coming back we made it in 2 hours and 10 minutes (traffic sucks). We averaged about 80MPH in a 65MPH-70MPH. The fastest he went was like 110MPH. His car is fast. I was sleeping most of the trip, between me being a fat@$$, and it hot you know I had suffered heat exhaustion. Ha-ha. I am going to work at 3:30PM PST, and I get off at 12AM PST. Damn K-Mart. Dude... I swear after my 90 Days I'm leaving after I find another job. K-Mart is a bunch of fascists.
