ebay at times can be very deceiving at times, I had the misfortune to trust someones word about my vette when I bought it on ebay. The car wasnt even close to how he described it and the photos he took of it must have been old or of a different car because what I bought was not what I got. He even lied about the vin and trim codes. He was a good con cause they havent caught him yet. My advise on ebay is, do a personal inspection before you buy. At least for expensive things like cars.

Now there is an expesion i haven't heard in a while 'Caveat Emptor' but oh so true, unfortunatley here in the good old US of A we are used to having our hand held and if anything goes wrong it's always someone else to blame, Ebay is not a bad place you just have to do your research and like someone out there sadi you MUST inspect a car before you buy it or you are just asking for a lot of trouble.

I bought mine on the internet and i traveled to Georgia to see it and all I can say is they saw me coming and I got shafted (Truck engine in my baby) but i'll fix that, it's my own fault i told myself to check numbers and didn't i alway wanted a Vette and was blinded by driving one for the first time ever and fell head over heels in love (sucker).

As for the one i showed you on Ebay i hope he doesn't sell it, because some poor sod has been shafted and when it comes to that sort of thing with classic cars i wanna go 'Postal', sh*t i know it will always happen but that doesn't make it right.

OK i'm off my soap box now.

Gary

Vette(s): 1979, 350sb, as my kids affectionately call it "shit brown" Corvette purchased in 1996. 84,000+ miles. Not a show car, but I love her just the same.

You all have to remember that since the advent of Ebay the word "restored" is carrying more definitions than the f-word has uses.  If his is "restored", mine's a trailer queen!  And trust me, I'm not knocking his Vette, I'm knocking his ego!  It might be "restored" in his part of the country, but not in mine.

After buying mine for just under $9,000.00 almost ten years ago, and putting at least another $5,000.00 into it so far (and boy are we a long way off from done!) I'd be lucky to get back what I originally paid for it.  But then I'm not looking to sell, and the concept of return on investment never entered my heart when I was given the opportunity to pick out a Vette that I wanted (thanks to my wife, the best woman in the whole world!).  I have told her several times in the last couple years, "Look, I can sell the Vette.  I don't need it."  And she replies, (with a slap across the back of my head) "It's bought and paid for you moron!  What does it cost us but a couple hundred in insurance each year?!" (That is, of course, if I don't see something I really want in one of the Vette catalogs!)

So, do I hope he gets the money he's asking?  No, because there aren't that many stupid people out there looking to buy Vettes!  Just because he sells his for that much does not, ipso facto, mean the price of mine just went up.  This is not real estate, and remember your property values can decline because of your neighbor just as readily as they can increase.  What it means is that he found the one guy who didn't do his research, and fell in love at first sight, and would move heaven and earth to have that Vette, no matter the cost...somewhat like many of us on this site did when we purchased our first Vette!  That means the next uneducated human being may be coming my way when I decide to sell, or may not, but I don't think it matters much on the resale value of my Vette, because the buyer is going to set the price, not me...that's the beauty of the free market.  I can tell you what I want, but you'll tell me what you'll pay!

Good topic of discussion, guys, thanks!
