Zora Arkus-Duntov was to Corvette as was, and still is, Don Garlett to drag racing. Both were engineers that changed the things that gearheads worship. While I was growing up, every guy had a sports hero that they idolized........for me it was Duntov and Garlett. Next year is the anniversary of Zora's birthday #100. Corvette should commemorate him on that milestone. If it weren't for him we would be probably on a Y3 Yugo Registry. He came from Russia, can you imagine the old Soviets with hot rod tanks engineered by him. I glad that Harley Earl hired Duntov. Is there any commemoration for Duntov in the Corvette Museum? Young people probably don't even know who these people are. What do the rest of you VetteHeads think?corvette440hp 2008-03-05 15:40:08

Zora was one of the best. Lots of other people that have been the history of great cars and my youth.

Definitely should be some kind of recognition of his 100th birthday. He had a great influence on Corvette design and performance for years.

Even more so, Zora was known for promoting the V8 engines into Corvettes in 1955. He also set a record at Daytona in the fying mile and was a consistent Corvette pilot at Le Mans - he was a driver and hot rodder!!!

Even more of a reason to commemorate his 100th!

You are right BelgiumBarry, thanks for the historical correction. If not for Zora the cars we are driving would not look anything like our beloved C3s

This is true...he was born in Belgium, but his parents were Russian.
I think there will prolly be some sort of "Celebration" planned by someone, either GM, or NCM, etc.

For the record, Mr. Duntov was an automotive engineer; he had very little to do with the design of the Corvette or the annual design changes. His job was to take what the designers sent him and make a driveable automobile out of it.
From that standpoint, he did very well.

What is the exact month and day of his 100th? I'd like to organize a cruise with the club I belong to here in Grand Rapids , MI to commemorate. Seems like we've been corrected before on this Barry. He was no Rooshki, he was a Belgiumshki.
