Hi all... It's going to be awhile before I'll be able to perform this modification, but while digging around in Corvette Fever's on-line archives I found a "Reader's Ride" 'vette with a big block, the VBP composite mono-spring front suspension conversion, and the "Steeroids" rack and pinion conversion.

I'm working on installing headers and dual exhaust on my '79, and definitely want the VBP suspension upgrades so I can silence those C5 guys at the autocross course. I would also like the R&P steering conversion.

One of my concerns is will the aftermarket suspension and steering clear the headers? Are there folks on the C3VR forums that have done these conversions, or know someone who has? it seems like these would go a long way toward bringing 25+ year old cars up to the 21st century!

The Steeroids conversion will clear your headers, and then some. You'll be able to do something rare with a big block with headers--GET YOUR HANDS IN THERE.

The main benefit to the steeroids conversion, aside from the fact that it's a much better ratio for sport steering, is that you s... can your tired steering box, which is the major clearance issue on a big block. The conversion also frees up 40 lbs. in the front end.

I purchased a Steeroids conversion a while back, and, before I put my baby up for a frame-off, had a wild time steering that baby around any curve in this area.
The brackets are meaty, all the linkages are either stainless steel, or powder coated, and the main u-joint looks like it belongs on the Space Shuttle.
