Vette(s): 1976 Brown with Buckskin Interior. I bought her on 9/15/03 and just received it on OCT 1st 2003!! It needs interior work, and some things under the hood, but I am so excited! Just waiting for Summer of 2004 to totally show it off.
There is a steering wheel & hub that is from a 1970 non-tilt telescopic column that i really like, however I wanna know will it work on a 76 with tilt tele and what is it that I will need to buy in order to get it to work?? If it just will not work, someone please tell me that too. Any and all help on this PLEASE!!!
Please someone can you help?? This is an item that I only have until 6pm to see if I can get it, so any and all advice sure would help!

No answer for you, but let me say this about that!
I wanted to change from the "unique '76" steering wheel to the more common, easier to find pre '76. Several guys said 'here you need this and that, oh, and two of these'. Never could get things to fit properly. Finally I found a good '76 steering wheel to replace my old one. Another option would be to change the whole column.

Another steering wheel question. The one on my 72 gets gooey after sitting for a long time. Clean it off and it's ok for a while, the the goo comes back after say a month. Time for a new wheel? Kinda annoying No funny answers please.
Bruce, my guess is the material in the wheel is breaking down. You might try sealing it with something, but I'm not sure what. Armor All?

Suzanne,
For some reason (I don't know why) all the 69-75 replacement steering wheels say that they will not fit 76's or 77-82 without Tilt/Tele. Eckler's says: "All 1976 and 77-82 without Tilt/Tele require an adapter"
Sorry but I'm not sure what adapter they are talking about. Most likely some kind of spacer or something. Maybe give them a call and find out

The hub on that 76 of yours will not except another steeting wheel...the lock down portion below the "nut" of your steering colum is slightly smaller then what was used in other years...the other wheels just will not fit as they are just a hair too large.. I think the only option is to replace the entire steering col...
I actually kind of like my "Vega Steering Wheel" on the 76... one of a kind...
About 10 years ago I purchased a set of "Budwiser King of Beers" logos to replace the crossed flags on the wheel hubs and the steering wheel... I lost one off of one hubs 2-3 years ago and have been looking at Carlisle for a replacement without any luck...
