I have campaigned C3 for 11 years with fair results. I use 2.5 degrees neg camber in front and 1.5 neg in rear. My car is lowered about 2 inches and use 7/8 inch sway bar up front and no sway bar in rear. Have been using BFG R-1 tires with about 34 lbs air up front and about 28 lbs out back. tire pressures vary with temp and surfaces but always maintained higher front pressures to take push out.

Hello,
How wild/expensive do you want to get? The C-3 can be made to handle near as well as a C-5 if you have the dough. (I know, but seeing is believing. Check out the Vette magazine article on Vettes on the Rockies Jan 03 I saw this car run. Look for it in future issues.) The guy has put over 50K into this car. You could probably do it for less because this guy's only answer to a problem is to through large quantities of money at it.
Anyway, what you need is a specific goal in mind. Hobby level or full on race. Dual use or not. Then start with a plan on paper or definately fixed in your mind. I have seen a lot of people waste unneccesary money not having a definite goal, ie. the above referenced car. AutoX is a blast no matter how your car is. You learn a lot about what it can and cannot do by pushing it to the limit.

Geeez, if you are gonna dump 50K into a C3 to do autoX, you might as well just spend the 47K and buy a 2003 Z06 and use the leftover 3K for gas and entry fees !

Vette(s): 1979, 350sb, as my kids affectionately call it "shit brown" Corvette purchased in 1996. 84,000+ miles. Not a show car, but I love her just the same.
Just remember 12 of that 50K goes to a new paint job for the circuit, so you only have 38K left for the performance goodies!

I have a unbored block to use to build from. I am planning on boring .030 over and using the performer RPM stuff (cam kit, heads, manifold) I am shooting for 10:1 compression (since alumn heads) I also plan on installing the VB&P grand touring Plus supension package. Upgrading the brakes with steel braided lines and better pads. The next upgrade (later) will be new rims with some BFG R1 tires. This should not cost me 50K but should suffice.
Thanks
Tony

I crew for a Legends Car race team, www.gardellaracing.com and as far as I am concerned, the way to go fast is, good brakes, good tires and a properly set up chassis. Don't waste your money on horsepower. All the horsepower in the world is wasted if you can't put it to the ground in a balanced fashion.
The very first money I would spend is on tires. Then if the class rules permit, adjustable coil over shocks, this way you can set the chassis as to weight loading of each wheel. You can measure tire temperatures, need a pyrometer, or if your budget permits, get a set of scales. From this you can see how much each tire is working. A balanced chassis is the key. But this will vary from driver to driver. Our driver likes a very loose car.
I like the camber settings as stated in the previous post, but would add a little front toe out (1/16") to make the car turn in faster and maybe set the rear at zero.
As a side note, in last years Lime Rock Time Trials by the NECC, we were 4th quick in the Legend, beaten only by a Lola, C4 road race Vette & a Porsche. And we did all that on 122 hp and street tires (dictated by class rules).
