Hi all,

Happy New Year!!

Working on brake job. New calipers all around. All were leaking from her sitting in garage for awhile.

Emptied master cylinder with turkey baster. Front bowl was empty and rear bowl was 1/3 down. Fluid not crystal clear but no rust in bottom of m/c. Wiped m/c bowls out with lint free cloth. Removed all calipers.

My question is; how can I flush the brake lines prior to installing the new calipers? I would rather not have the old brake fluid going in the new calipers if possible.

Thanks for any advice, tips, tricks.

Hook the old calipers back up to the brake lines and just flush each one at time.  You don't have to reassemble the brakes, you just need something to be able to bleed each line one at a time.

If the calipers are already off, you could fill the master cylinder and let gravity flush the old fluid out of the lines.  When you see clean fluid coming out of a line, plug it with a golf tee or similar item.

If you are replacing the hoses, I recommend using the St-St braided ones as they will minimize the soft pedal feel the rubber hoses cause.

Thanks 73shark.

Quick question / thought:

Should I flush all four lines at once or systematically flush one line at a time as if I were bleeding the brake calipers. (Plug all 4 lines with golf tees, fill m/c, then remove right rear tee till fluid is clear, replug with tee and move to left rear, replug, go to right front, replug, finish at left front). What's your thoughts on this? Thanks again.

I think you would have more control over what you are doing if you do them one at a time.

I agree with Gary.  Less messy than what I proposed.
