Hi all,

Received all my new power steering hoses to install.Very excited until I lay on the concrete and look up to see a clamp I never have seen in my life. Couldn't even try to describe this unknown object holding the hose to the pump. Googled types of clamps and came up with; what I think it is, EAR CLAMP 🤔🤦‍♂️. What the heck is this?? I am assuming it is the original clamp.

How do I get this alien off my hose? Is it reusable? Should I replace it with a "normal" hose clamp?

Also what type of Power Steering fluid do you recommend? I have heard not to use transmission fluid in any corvette. True???

Thanks

😅 Like this?

You can use a pair of side cutters(dykes), and catch on to the "ear" part where it is crimped. Then twist it sideways back-forth. This will loosen the grip, and you can unhook the tangs, or cut it off from there. Replace with a regular worm clamp.

(damn spel-chek)

Oh...and you CAN use trans fluid for the power steering.

Thanks for your response. Looks more like this but crimped near the top.

Hi, I have used MANY of these type of clamps. Pneumatic hoses use these as a clamp.

I cut mine off when I replaced the hose and used a regular worm clamp since not close to a NCRS car.  One brand is Oetiker and you can use an end cutting nipper to squeeze instead of the special tool.  Just be careful not to squeeze so tite that it cuts the clamp.
