Took my 78 out today for the longest drive I've ever made, 65 miles one way.....90% interstate driving. I noticed on the return trip that when I started the car, the ignition was very warm and then I laid my hand on the steering column and it was hot. Is this indicative of a short somewhere? I have never noticed this before. Thanks

I've never experienced anything like that. Did you check the steering box to see if it was hot (maybe transferring heat to steering column)

By ignition do you mean the key and the lock?
The only thing electrical in that vicinity that I am aware of is the horn circuitry. Any shorts would normally blow a fuse.
