Ahhh fun times, I think this White car does not like to travel outside NY

Thought the pedal felt a bit funny while running some back roads with Shimer's, and Mooney's friday evening. Sat morning on the way to fairgrounds brake light came on.
Looked under car as much as you can while on the grass and did not see any wet spots. Frank went wheel to wheel and put his fingers in the wheel slots. Rear drivers side was black, not wet but black.
Topped off the rear master as it was down about 1/2 inch.
Drove it home yesterday being very aware of my surroundings. The traffic on 81 was very light and we had no problems.
I placed an order today for new O-ring rebuild kits for all four calipers, four new SS brake hoses ($19 more than stock) new rear pads as I'm sure that side is wet, and a rebuild kit for Master cyl.
I figured the system has not been flushed clean in 25 years. I'll start tearing it down tonight, blow out the lines, run some brake clean through them till their looking clean. When parts get here I'll put it all back together.
So any little tricks or "To Do's" I should watch for along the way?
While I'm at it list
- clean and polish rims
- rotate tires
- grease front end
- spray eastwood rust proof inside frame rails
- paint calipers
- sand and repaint black slots on the wheels

sounds like fun - why not have a little more fun and repack / replace front wheel bearings, races and seals while you're havinig fun. Did mine a few months ago with all timken bearings, races and seals for about $60, nothing like a little grease all over the place.
Sorry I missed you last Saturday at Carlisle, just ran out of time .....

Good luck with your project!
I know that the propotioning valve is supposed to keep the rear brakes from locking up, but was wondering if it might be restricted. Just a thought!

Dennis, that may not be a bad Idea, it only has 20K but Its easy enough to pull the hub and take a peak, cost nothing to clean and regrease.
So you did not make it to Carlisle?

No locking up, once you pumped the pedal a few times it was ok, I just gave myself plenty of stopping distance and kept an eye out for trouble.

I removed the McGuard wheel locks (once I found where I hid the key) loosened all the lugs. One rear lug was spinning, must have spun all the grippers off the stud and she was just turning with the lug nut. WD 40'd the wee wee out of it let it sit ten minutes and came back at it in fast jerking strokes (Marshal) it came loose. Just grilled up some chicken so i'll have it up on stands tonight.

Is it possible to get to that stud to replace it without removing the rear rotor?

Look what I found...only rotor with no rivets? why?

Yes, I made it over to Carlisle on Saturday and just ran out of time and forgot to stop by and see you guys. Not that I don't think of you guys often, but this was my first Carlisle and I had no idea how big a place it really was. Next time I hope to be a little better prepared and not walk in so many circles.

Up on stands,

the leak at rear inside piston

can see my build sheet!
