If you remove/disconnect the rear spring, there will be nothing to hold the rear of the car up! You will really have a bad noise then! It will be the sound of the body crashing onto the floor! Don't do that!

Have you checked the rear shock mounts. It might be something very simple. Check all of the fasteners, bushings, etc. I would'nt mess with the spring until I have checked everything else. I wish I was close to you...I am usually pretty good at isolating these noises.

hooray
finally fixed my rear suspension noise! i had installed adjustable strut rods and the inner locking/jam nut was ever so slightly loose (even with blue loctite on it) and the little clearance caused the click/popping noise thanks so much to all for your suggestions.
