I can't remember ever needing some "special tool" to keep the p-valve centered while bleeding...

And Joel, yes exactly, I've bled many cars with full system replacements but have never tripped the valve or need the tool but I have had customers call in who have tripped it and wanted to know how to reset it. I guess it happens.

Here is what the tool looks like. I am not sure what years might need this? I know my 77 does not. There is no button to hold in. I think it starts in 74 they are a combination valve it not only isolates the breaks if unequal pressure (leak) but lowers the pressure to the rear wheels during heavy breaking. It may be used on earlier non disc brakes or earlier distribution blocks. If the valve gets tripped the brake light will stay on. It takes a sudden hard break pedal push to reset it.

It depends on the cover. IF it has the "tunnel" formed into it to connect the two chambers, then yes, you can use it. If not, you would need to cut a section of the rubber out so the two chambers will be connected.

oh...and btw....when using a pressure bleeder, you don't need much pressure at all....10 psi is enough. Get too much pressure and the cap will start leaking/spraying brake fluid everywhere....doesn't take much pressure to actually bleed the brakes, so be careful.
