Vette(s): 1982 corvette crossfire production numer C5101985. Color is silver and claret. All original numbers match. slight mods to crossfire for better efficiancy and power balanced and added fuel pressure assembly between throttle bodies,
anyone attempt a rear end bushings replacements
and other parts that I may replace since the rear end will be out
I need to replace my rear trailing arm bushings (both)- cant get a good alignment with the old bushings and since Im going to have to drop the rear end to get to them (or so it looks like) i might as well replace all the bushings with polyurethane ones and do the wheel bearings, and u-joints as well since the rear end will be out of the car.

any tips or dont do's?

Marcus

Depends on what you mean by rebuilding the rear....if you just want to replace the output shafts its really no different than any other gm axle...you can replace the output seals and bearings at this time as well...if you like you can replace the input seal as well but look for technical specs and a new crush washer for that one...but really not that hard.

Vette(s): 1974 L-48 Auto. Just your basic Vette. GM crate motor w/vortec heads and intake. Crane cam. Scorpion rockers, Edelbrock carb. Lots of parts still in boxes... :(
Bushings aren't bad.  Bearings are a pain, and best left to a professional.  The clearance is crucial, and requires spaced washers and some special tools.  Good time to do the ebrake shoes, springs, and pins while it's apart, as well as any new lug nut studs you need.

If you want to save a ton of time and aggravation, buy fully loaded trailing arm assemblies from Bair's and just replace. $349 per side. I went that way. Even includes new rotors.

Here's a tip. Make sure you keep track of the trailing arm shims and their proper locations.  That will make alignment much easier and less costly.  When I rebuilt mine...long time ago, I was able to bring them to the machine shop at the plant that I worked.  Popping the old bushings out and the new in with the press they had was a breeze.  I was also able to get them powder coated cheaply as well.   Those contacts are long gone so if I had to do it again I would probably just order the new parts and get back on the road that much quicker.
