That dimension is 27". Gas tank is almost empty nothing in the trunk. I did call the manufacture, sent plenty of pictures. Had numerous emails. He said he would have the designer needs look into it. When I asked what the designers said. His reply if your not happy with the spring we will refund your money and buy one elsewhere. I replied back that I really want a spring from them but a spring that fits properly. He replied back I will be out of the office for a few days the owner is going to contact you. That was four days ago and nobody contacted me. Now I am going to do what I wanted to do from the start. I am looking for another original 10 leaf spring and rebuild it. I was at an all corvette show today and checked tons of rear springs and either their was a slight arch or they were flat. Almost time for the gathering!!! Can't wait it will be awesome.

I am hoping one of the members that has switched to glass will part with their steel one.
Darin - I have a genuine GM composite spring removed from an '82 Collector Edition for sale if you are interested. It is the base suspension spring rate, gymkhana cars in the 80's still came with steel springs. I believe it is a bolt on installation, PM me if you are interested. Thanks, John

Thanks for asking! Another NCRS member gave me an original steel spring!
Good Morning All, I have had on my '80 Vette a TRW #1 fiberglass spring since the OEM Steel spring broke while I was driving HWY 101 on Thanksgiving 1989.
It has served me well since that date and steers, drives like on rails and I have put it through hell. You have to try and get one that is regarded as a#1 as they have #1,2,3 springs, which means #1 has less of a chance of having "AIR" bubble in the GLASS.I had a friend at TRW when I bought mine.I have just replaced the spring hard rubber bushings with the pretty red urethane bushings to see how they hold up.
Good luck on you replacement.I understand that all Vettes have these springs starting in 1982 as I was told by TRW,however could be when GM started buying TRW springs.
