Rear shocks

I think it's time to replace the shocks on my '72 small block coupe. It is street driven, no autocross etc.

Have you guys any suggestions on brands.??

If your looking for a factory ride quality, Monroe Sensa Trac's would probably be your best bet.

A little firmer than stock ride are the KYB shocks. Not bad in comfort plus you can do some spirited driving. Not autocross though. I've had KYB's on the '81 since 2001.

Now Bilstein's are the premium shock. With a premium price. They are pretty firm and more suited for autocross driving. But a lot of guys out there in Corvette world seem to prefer them. It is said that they work well with a composite rear leaf spring.

Thank you...I appreciate your good advice. I guess I'm probably leaning towards either Monroe or KYB.

Yup, KYB G2's, now called Excel G. Jegs show them for $25.00 each. A rear glass spring does wonders too.

Vette(s): 1972 LT-1 convertible with factory air. 2017 Black Rose Grand Sport convertible.
For street driving, you could just get the AC Delco HD shocks.  Not very expensive.

Gary, no disrespect. I had Delco's gas version before switching to KYB's.....very comfortable improvement!

I did a lot of suspension work on my 79 earlier this year and installed Delco gas replacement shocks . I expected a huge improvement in the handling and drivability of the car but was disappointed in the dampening of the Delco shocks . Bilstien's cured the problem . Three times the price of the Delcos that are now on a friends 1966 convert . He never drives it so he won't know the difference !
