Does anyone have a good source for assembly of the steering column.  The ones I have found are not for the same type as mine.  I have a 75 non-tilt, non-telescoping, without the dimmer switch.

I'm most interested in the assembly of the outer most pieces for the horn.

This has been apart in the past, and I don't think the parts were put back in the correct order.

I found this spring inside the steering column -- anyone knows where it came from?

Bill, for everything steering column I usually go to Jim Shea's website - see below. I believe he used to work for the original steering column manufacturer and he has posted a wealth of knowledge on them. Hope this helps. Keep us posted on your progress !! http://jimshea.corvettefaq.com/?cat=12

For parts, I'd check Paragon.

Bill, your pic is a bit fuzzy but it looks like the rack preload spring found on P2 of Jim's 69-79 standard column disassembly instructions. I believe it keeps tension on the locking rack that moves back and forth to engage the steering column lock as you operate the key mechanism. It's been a while since I've worked on a non tilt/tele column, wish I had some pics to help you out. Check out Jim Shea's articles, good luck !!

Yes, it would be the preload spring.  That would be why the steering lock pin does not work!

Guess I'll have to find out how to get this back in place.  The picture does not show that.

(I tried to quote your message, but the screen would not allow my space bar to work when typing???)

Can anyone point me in the direction of instructions on how to install the rack preload spring?  I don't even see where it came from. . .
I checked Jim's site, but could only find a picture, but not where it actually goes, or how to get it there.
Thanks for all the help so far.
