Today I had my 69 out for a drive and I noticed a slight binding and clicking sound when I would turn the steering wheel fully one direction or the other. I had slowed down to turn into my driveway when I heard the sound. The sound seems to be coming from inside the car.  Is there a steering column bearing inside the car? location? can you grease it? I checked under the hood. The rag joint looks good.  I have posted before about the gear box grease tool. I was going to try to use it, but the cover bolts are on very tight. they probably have never been off. I think I will leave them alone. The box is not leaking..  Any suggestions about the steering column  sounds would be apprecited.  Thanks, Bob

Two bearings in the column...one at the top by the wheel, and one down by the rag joint end. Rarely have problems with them, but they can get dry over the years, and create noises, and binds when they have no grease. If they're that bad, you should be able to feel some up/down side/side play in the shaft.
The upper bearing can be serviced/replaced without removing the column, but the lower bearing requires column removal and dis-assembly to replace. Neither is an especially pleasant job....
