I have a 72' BB 4sp and am getting ready for major restoration. I want to do my suspension
first starting with the front end. I want to upgrade to F-40 specs or better with springs,
shocks, urethane bushings, sway bar, etc. I plan on using a monospring in the rear with
adjustable strut rods and probably offset trailing arms.
My question is, who makes a good quality product? I have all the catalogues but would
like some input before I buy.
Thanks,
Campbell

Vette(s): 1979, 350sb, as my kids affectionately call it "shit brown" Corvette purchased in 1996. 84,000+ miles. Not a show car, but I love her just the same.
Campbell:
Just put a VB&P 330# monospring in my '79. They have my vote, plus if you can get your hands on their catalog, they sell complete upgrades or separate parts.
When I went looking (FYI) I originally thought of purchasing the spring through CorvetteCentral, as they were about $40.00 cheaper. But CC was backordered until next month. VB&P had it in stock and the girl who took the order walked the order down to shipping and receiving to have it filled and shipped within the next day.
It took about 3-4 days from Florida to Michigan.
Look for my earlier email in the General Discussion Forum for my take on the performance change of the vehicle.

Get a catalog from Guldstrand in Cal and read the intro section before you launch into anything.
VB has very good products (I have several on my 71) but Guldstrand is the Vette master. He's been racing them since the 50's.
I prefer the TRW rear spring to VB but whichever you use, I recommend Bilstein Sport shocks.
Also, DO NOT over size the rear stabar - severe oversteer will result.

I have to agree with Flynhi. I took my car to Guldstrand Engineering, and Dick personally performed the initial inspection, and recommended suspension components based upon how I was going to use the car (which for me was dual-purpose street/autocross). I am VERY happy with the selection of parts, and the quality of workmanship. His catalog has some great basic information about how the suspension stores and releases energy, and it makes perfect sense from an engineering viewpoint (I was in Electronics Engineering at Cal Poly, SLO). You can order his catalog at:

It is a good reference. Dick is a gentleman, and he knows Corvette suspensions. He recommended that I go with a 1" front sway bar, and no rear bar. I know other companies swear by large sway bars, but that's not what Dick has found to work best.

Hey Mark! Welcome to a very cool forum just for our rides! Glad you found this place! Going to the cruise in this weekend? I'm working on getting Destiny's underhood area cleaned up, so next time you see her, she hopefully will be cleaner under there! lol Sorry I was wrong about last weekend being the last, but hey, there sure was a good turnout, wasn't there? Your family looked like they were having some fun. I totally dig your little girl, she knows her cars! That's so neat!

When I rebuilt the rear end on my 78 I used Vette Brakes poly bushings,
their smart struts, added a 3/4'' rear sway bar and a 360 lb glass spring.
The car rides hard but sure stays flat on hard corners!
I'm real happy with it. This is a Sunday-go crusin' car,the hard ride is
well worth the handeling upgrade! Enjoy!
