I apprciate all the input. I have found BFG Radia T/A's at Tire Rack and Mid America. I have one other question. What size do you recommend? 225's or 255's/

Recently switched from the Cooper to BF Goodrich Radial T/A. Personally, much happier with the overall performance of the T/A ~ particularly in rain.

Vette(s): White '79 Corvette. It's a driver.
I had the 225's (BFG's) and went with 255's (Firestones) a few years ago.
I think the 255's have a meatier look. I'll stick with 'em on my '79.

Glad to hear there's some positive comments about the Coopers.  I currently have BFG's but they're pretty old and I've decided I'm going to replace them before the summer driving season.  Very intrigued with the Coopers as they have the T speed rating and they seem to be a little less expensive than the BFG's.

Regarding the size question: The BFG's I have are 235/60's and a like the look of them.  Would 255's be a better choice, though?

The only problem may be the wheelwells. 78 and up Vettes had a different design wheelwell which was  designed to be able to use the 255/60 tires. It seems that in the earlier cars, it's basically a hit or miss proposition (pun intended). So if you're thinking about going with that size, I would do a trail fit first.

Thanks, Barry.   After I posted I did some math.  Looks like my '76 probably came original with 225/70's which are 27.4" dia, 8.9" wide.  255/60's are also about 27", but they are wider of course.  Interestingly, the 235/60's I bought the car with are only about 26" so shorter and wider than stock.  (Guess my speedo has been a little off this entire time).   So I'll probably stick with the 235's rather than take a chance and go with the 255's.  I noticed the Cooper also comes in 245/60 so maybe that would be a better choice, a little closer to stock diameter, but a little wider.

Anyone out there with 245/60's or 255/60's on a pre-'78?  Any rubbing issues if so?

I have the Cooper 245 60s on my 76.  I have no complaints and have been watching for a replacement pair as mine are past the 5 year mark and, due to my not paying attention to alignment, one pair is almost bald.  They do rub if you crank the wheels too far and that is one reason I am afraid of going to the 255 TA's.  The cooper 245s are pricey, but I did not realize the Futura's are the same tire and may shop pep boys.  There is a cooper cobra 225 - 70 which is much cheaper, but I really like the 245's look and might just bite the bullet anyway.  Cooper only rates the 225 tire for a 6 to 7 inch wide rim, so that also gives me some pause.

I tried the 255 in the front but rubbing issues when the tire is cranked and not much clearance from top of the fender...dont want to hit a pothole while turning, fiber glass repairs..$$$$$ . I went with 235 front and 255 rearSmile
