Hello everyone, I have a 77 vette and am looking to possibly buy a set of 15X7 rims I found. Can anyone tell me what the recommended tire size would be for the these rims so I would not have a problem putting them on my vette (ie...clearance, turning issues, fender interference, etc.)
Thanks for all of your help, I greatly appreciate it!!!!!

Vette(s): 1979, Targa Blue (72 Color), Pace Car rear spoiler, L88 hood, Dark blue factory interior, 525HP 406, HD 700R4, 370 gears,Steeroids, composite rear spring, TT IIs wrapped in T/A Radials.
Matt, the standard is a 225-70/15 while the optional tire was a 255-60/15' albeit this was on 8" rims. I just put a set of 225-70s on my car after having the 60s on there for years. Wouldn't ya know that darn 70s were just a hair taller and enough to clip the bottom rear corner of the front wheel well when turned?!?!
Double check the fit with the 7" rims and test fit before driving. Don't know what a one inch narrower rim does to tire geometry. Hopefully not taller...
Good luck.
Paul

Why would you want to go to a narrower rim than stock? Stock on all '69-'82 Sharks is 15"x8". If you have found some bona-fide, 15x7 rims for a Corvette, you'd be better off selling those to someone with a '68, as that was the only year for the 7" ralley rims...they're pretty scarce these days, and bring good $$$.
Just my opinion...

P255/60 wasn't an authorized tire size until the '78 model year. Put them on a pre-'78 car and you may have clearance issues, but that seems to be a car by car thing.
The only factory authorized tire size in '77 was GR70-15, which corresponds to P225/70R15 in current sizing.

Adam is right. If you have genuine Corvette 7" wheels, they are worth enough to sell and buy correct 8" wheels. However, the vast majority of 7" ralley wheels are the Monte Carlo style, with different backspacing, which makes all the other advice above not apply in your case. Get the code off them and Google it to be sure.

Forgot to mention, I have the original 15X8 aluminum wheels on the car now with 255/60/15's. I have no problems or clearance issues with them. I found a nice set of keystone classic rims for a great price that are the 15X7 that I was inquiring about. I was just wondering what the biggest size tire I can get to put on the 15X7's. Thanks to all for you continued help!

Be careful with any aftermarket rims you buy. You may need spacers with them to clear the calipers as well as longer lug nuts to go with them. If you do require spacers, don't get aluminum, get steel. Aluminum spacers will crack very easily if torqued too tightly.
On a 15"x7" rim, you'll be pushing it if you mount 60 series tires...maybe a small 60 series might work. The wide tread on a too narrow rim will cause the tires to wear quickly in the center unless you underinflate them, and that cause poor handling characteristics and excessive heat buildup. I would stick with 70 series tires on a 15"x7".

Like these?
As Bruce(gunslinger) says, watch out for the backspacing. Aftermarket rims for Corvettes are tricky when it comes to clearing the calipers.
