Vette(s): 1973 Corvette Stingray Coupe. All origional car - #'s Matching, white with saddle interior.
Does anyone know how difficult it is to change out the dash speakers on a '73? I have looked it over and it looks to me like you have to take the whole dash, windshield trim, and inst. cluster out. Am I right????
I feel reluctant to take it to an install shop and have some kid ripping my car apart |no-no|
Any help would be appreciated.

I've had the passenger side apart to install a radio and associated components. It isn't too tough a job to take apart (and get back together |laugh|). The right side speaker was easy to get at.

I haven't tackled the left side yet, mostly becuz of all the gauges and such. But with the odometer dead at the moment I'll be taking that side apart so will see how hard a job that will be. My guess is that with the speedo/tach out of the way the left speaker should be fairly easy to get at.

I did mine, and the pass side is a piece if cake, once you remove the map pocket panel. The drivers side, otoh, is a real bear. You have to drop the instrument cluster, which means dropping the steerign wheel. Even then, it is a tight squeeze. But it;s done, and I'd rather do it myself than trust some kid, too. Joe

Thanks Norsky & Joe! I was afraid you were going to say that. Looks like I'll just have to use the good ol' unviersal adjuster on the drivers side |hammer|
I'm new to C3VR but I can already tell that this is a great site full of great people |thumb|

Thanks again!

How do you drop the steering wheel? I took the two bolts out that are under the wiper over ride and the wheel would no lower. How did you do it?

behind the pedals is two nuts that attach it to the floor. Loosen them and it should drop down some. You might want to loosen the nuts that attach to the cloth joint as well.
