Vette(s): 1976 Brown with Buckskin Interior. I bought her on 9/15/03 and just received it on OCT 1st 2003!! It needs interior work, and some things under the hood, but I am so excited! Just waiting for Summer of 2004 to totally show it off.
How come every catalog I have you can get a steering wheel for 68-75 and 77-82!

WHERE DO I GET A 1976 REPLACEMENT?? OR DO I NEED TO DYE IT? |headscratch| |headscratch| |cussing|

Find yourself a steering wheel from a '76 Vega...it's the same wheel except for the Corvette emblem in the center. Using a Vega wheel in a Vette caused a lot of complaints, but budget cuts from GM forced the issue that year.

Vette(s): 1976 Stingray, L48 auto Buckskin/Buckskin Leather originally. Numbers matching.
Not just from the Vega, This wheel, or atleast the design, was used various Chevy's of the mid to late 70's. Have owned Monza's and Camaro's that had the same wheel design, I still have the Black Widow emblem from my '77 Monza Spyder and the Z-28 emblem from my '79 Camaro Z-28, both of which would fit in the Vette horn button. The wheel design in question, was call the "Sport Wheel", I believe, atleast in the Vega.

Vette(s): It's a 1976 L-48 auto Red with Firethorn and white delux interior, 68,000 miles. I have tried to restore it to NCRS specs and have recieved 1 Bronze 3 Silver, 1 Gold Spinner and Top Gun, Best C3 Vette at Chicago's Chevy/Vette Fest.
Having the Vega steering wheel is just a matter of if you want to keep your car original or not. I kept my steering wheel, as much as I dont like it in order to keep it original. But I think I remember seeing in one of the Corvette vendors catalogs an adapter kit so you can use a different steering wheel. Which vendor and what year steering wheel you can use I dont remember since I didnt pursue it. Maybe someone can help if they have done the change already. As for dying the steering wheel, I would be worried that the dye would come off in your hands while holding the steering wheel on a hot day. Good Luck!

Suzanne, you can find allot of steering wheels at swap meets. You will have to look at them closely to find a good one, but their allot cheaper than buying somewhere else. I saw about 20 different ones at a swap meet in Stafford Springs Connecticut a couple of weeks ago.
