Chrome piece has come off of glove box lock. Cannot figure out how to remove lock. Also dyeing the door after removal of the lock assembly. Assembly manual does not show removal. Need some instructions. Can the chrome piece be reinstalled or do i need complete new lock assembly?
Thanks,
Bick

I am not sure if my '82 is the same, but I'll take a look tonight.
I also have an AIM and I'll see what is in there.

my AIM did not show. Searched all of the posts and still no luck. Chrome piece looks like it has ears on back to twist on assembly, however no luck. Do see small hole in assembly that looks like hex key slot, however no work.
Thanks,
bick
When I replaced my lock, I removed the lock set with the key. You put in the key and turn the key one way or the other and gently pull out the lock set. The housing is held in place by screwing a flange on from the front of the door. If I remember rightly, there is a allen head opening on the back of the lock housing on the inside of the door. Hold that and unscrew the mount from the front of the door. Be careful not to let the housing turn too much because it will mess up the alignment slot in the door. I replaced my lock with a new one I purchased from MAM. Reassembly is the reverse. I hope this will help you. The only thing I don't like is carring around the extra key for the glove box because the door key doesn't work anymore.

thanks, will try today. There is a small hiole behind where the Chrome Bezel was. Did not see allen head screw on inside of the door. Will relook!
Any idea of how to re-attach the chrome piece?
thanks,
Bick
Help,
Was not able to figure it out. could not remove lockset with key. twisted, pushed and pulled both directions to no avail
No allen set screw to be removed. Not making any progress. Somebody surely has removed the glove box lock to repair-paint the plastic cover.
May have to go to locksmith i guess.
Thanks,
Bick
Got it!!! found another reoply on another suite, will post in case next person needs help.
This came from "Stilcrazee" DC Crew #20.....it helped me out greatly!
If it has a knob that the key goes into open the door, flip the latch up turn the key to the locked position (12 oclock) and remove the key. If you look right where the lock meets the back side of the door there will be a small square or round opening. If you look in to that you should see the top of a silver retainer. Straighten a paper clip out and push it in and push down on that retainer, at the same time you need to pull the knob out toward the interior of the car. You may be able now to get your key back in and the "plug" will come out , if not keep pulling gently remove the paper clip and the plug will move and stop again, repeat pushing down and pulling. Depending on the contition of the plug in the lock, you will need to do that at least 4 more times.
There is a bezel nut under the knob that holds the lock body to the door. You need to remove it and the lock will be off.
When you go to reassemble on the door, hold the plug in your hand and push the silver retainer (closest to the back of the knob) down and insert the key, the retainer will be held in to make reinsert into lock body easy. Then hold the knob in place and remove key

I used small screw driver to hold down the retainer. Lockset came right out. then about a 1/2" hes to unscrew the bezel not. Still have to figure how to reattach the Chrome piece.

Thanks,
Found that the chrome piece was crimped on originally. Tried to recrimp and then added superglue to make sure it stayed.
Next person with the problem may solve easier!!
