The rear window / cargo shade trim has faded and I'm looking to update it, perhaps use interior color matching trim spray to freshen it to new.  It appears to be a different color (perhaps black) from the rest of my interior.  Any thoughts suggestions as to the color of the trim.  

All of the Interior plastic trim on mine matches the interior. I do know that if you ordered a trim piece from Chevrolet,  it will come in black and you have to paint it to match. Maybe someone already replaced your trim.

My '81 is a black flat/satin finish plastic.  If you look to paint it a color.  Try testing the paint on a piece of cardboard and sit it on the shelf to see if it clashes when looking in the rear window.  There's a reason they use black..... it fades into the back ground and does not call attention to itself.  Also does it create glare in the window?

thanks johnu, mine looks just like that.  Flat / Satin black sounds exactly like the color it is.  I'll start the paint hunt now to freshen it up.  Any suggestions of paint brands you've used in the past on yours?  I was at a car show today and saw multiple late 70's / early eighties vettes which all looked like flat black as you've described.  Interestingly enough, they all were faded pretty bad like mine.  

Rust-Oleum does both a Satin and a Semi-Gloss black...along with most other popular suppliers.  Another idea is a thin coat of Wurth Stone Guard Black.  It's not as thick as truck bed coatings, but leaves a nice low textured finish.  These guys sell it.  https://www.autogeek.net/w890971.html.
