WOW what a great site! I was hoping someone might be able to help.
I just purchased a 1980 C3 L48 a few weeks ago and am trying to iron out a few minor bugs. I have two interior questions - the first one is about the inside edge of the drivers seat. The seat hinge seems to go past the normal stop when I lean back to hard on the seat. I have been to many different sites to see if the hinge is available but can only find the hinge covers. Does anyone have a fix or know where I can buy a new hinge?
Also the coin recepticle on the centre console has two holes where it looks like something was fastened to it. One hole is elongated and is about 1/2 an inch long and the other is a screw hole. These really look like something from the factory as they are very straight and precise. Does anyone know what these might be for?
Thanks in advance,
Martin

The hinge may simply be loose, and allowing it to flop over the stopping point. It has happened...
You might try taking the covers off, and having a look-see.
I don't know about the two holes in the console, tho...a pic might help.
Unless someone else here has the same holes in their '80 car...anyone??? anyone??? Bueller? Bueller??

There shouldn't be any Holes that I know of as an original owner of a 80". However it could be that the Console has been replaced and it is a reproduction and was intended for a 81-82 wich had a Power outside Mirror Option. I beleive that the Joystick went between the Power Window Switchs. Richard....

On an 82 the power mirror switch is behind the coin tray (depression) in the console, not in it. There would be two holes, one round one for the joystick and a rectangular one for the switch to choose which mirror the joystick was moving.

Hi Guys...
MartinsVette 2007-10-19 14:17:20
Thanks for your replys! Shortly after posting this message I received a call from Bairs Corvettes and have a used seat hinge on its way. I tried several times to repair the seat hinge with only temporary results so hopefully the new/used hinge will do the trick.
I am not sure as a trial member if I can send a picture and am not even sure how I can upload a picture of my car for the side description.
After such fast replies and helpfulness I will most likely become a full member and assume I will be able to have more access after that.
Now I have to figure out how to remove the seat cusions from the frame/backing (any help appreciated). I also have several books on the way from Corvette America.
I am quite mechanically inclined and this is not the first classic car I have owned. I am looking at selling my 64 Pontiac Parisienne (Canadian car).
Thanks again,
Martin
The cushions come out easy on my '82 and I believe the '80 is the same.

Take a look at my pictures in my signature link. Car Domain page 5 shows the seats.
There is a thread on repairing the seat lock here somewhere.
Try using the search feature.
And you should be able to upload a picture. Just make sure it is 200 x 200 pixels or smaller.
And welcome to C3VR.

Thanks for the info and pic link. Very helpful and much appreciated.

Martin -- order the 1980 assembly instruction manual (AIM). It's worth the price.

81 or 82 shown. Toggle and slider switch for electric mirrors; regular production window switches. If this car has the optional rear window defroster, the switch in on the upper left corner of console hidden by the steering wheel in this picture. The 80 stock console is the same without the power mirror switches.
Woodgrain stuff is an owner add-on and is not stock.
