Vette(s): 1982 Collector Edition Project Car in need of a lot of TLC!

Does anyone know where I could find templates or factory specs/drawings for the Collector Edition rear hatch hardware mounting brackets? Somewhere over the life of my car someone converted the factory opening hatch to a fixed hatch. In the process they also removed ALL related hardware, brackets, trim, cables, etc. associated with the operating rear hatch.

Vette(s): 1982 C3 Collectors Edition 44000 miles, sat in the sun most of its life, My wife purchased it for me for Father's Day in 2007 from her girlfriend that had it for 19 years. It is on the road again. I'm retired but it is now my daily driver.

Be careful about buying anything for the rear window on a CE from e-Bay.  The hinges streach because they are made from a relatively weak material.  There are only two places that I know of that you can purchace good replacements.  One I know works because he has been doing it for a long time.  The other one I just heard about,  It sounds good is suppose to be closer to origenal in looks but has only been on the market a year or so.   I would be willing to make some measurements on mine if you need them.  I have to in the next couple of months get at them so when I do that I can make measurements.

Do you have the latching mechanism or did the remove that also?

You will need a contact that may have access to a number of parts that are not available from normal supply.  This may include the latching mechanisms and even the release cable.  You will need to find someone that parts out unrepairable corvettes.  There are a few of these guys around I use one here in San Diego.  I got a set of original glass tops to replace the blue ones I had.  He is a life time member but does not get on the site a lot so I have included his email.  He is also just about 3 mile from my house so if you need someone to double check a part for you I can do that.  I know he has parted out two CE's in the past.  However most of the time he fixes them and sells them.

Let me know if I can help get another CE restored.

I have picked up a rear window with good hinges and latch pins, cables and latches. They ground off the rivets and removed all the mounting brackets for the latches, cables and the mounting bracket in the header that the hinges attach to... yeah, they stripped her bare!

So you still need the mounting brackets for the latches, cables and mounting bracket in the header.  I'm thinking that I will ask Steve here in San Diego what he has.  Take some pictures of it to make sure it is what you are missing.  I will be seeing him this weekend he is going to cut some new door panels for me.  I have never done it and he has.

Now as far as the hinges go for your hatch.  If they are factor hinges they are most likely sprung. They all are.  I willing to bet they got jammed and the guy just did the only thing he could if he wanted to have a water tight back lid.  Like I said in the earlier post I only know of two manufactures and only one of those has been doing it for 10 years or so.  You will want to get new hinges.  For those contact simpson36@gmail.com .  Tell him the story he may even have some drawings of the components you need.   I have some buttons and small connecting hardware extra.  If I have it and you need it you are welcome to it.

Thanks... I am familiar with the Simpson website and I will definitely consider getting new hinges. I appreciate your offer to check with Steve about the mounting brackets. Any parts he might have would be a big help!
