Topic: 72 Carpet / Body Insulation
in Forum: C3 Interior
Now that I have the carpet out to do lots of interior work it's time to start re-assembling stuff. The interior is bare except for the dash area so everything is accessible. I also pulled out the 3 hatch door assembly, that was also falling apart.
I ripped out the dirty disintigrating insulation that was glued to the insides of the compartment. Replaced the wiring harness, radio antenna wire, door switches, seat belts etc.....
I have a new Al Knock carpet set with backing jute on hand. I see lots of options to replace the insulation (sound deadner?) but don't want to create any new problems with modern replacements.
Suggestions?

While I don't have any experience with carpet replacement, I would think any aftermarket options would be good if they are meant for your particular Vette.

My first Vette, now owned by JB79:

When redoing "BLKBRRD" before installing new carpeting we laid down a sound deadening/insulation product (sorry don't remember the name) that had an adhesive backing. It was thinner than the old carpet insulation so there wasn't any issues with the new carpeting going in.
So yes that is what I'm looking at.
2 options I see in the catalogs.
- Original sound deadener - mastic with pad OEM style ( Auto Custom Carpet) ( heavy stuff?)
- Carpet heat barrier ceramic cloth (thin stuff)
Both are fairly inexpensive, but need to go in now while I'm in there.
BTW the rear wiring harness, switches, rear light housings all work now.
