Topic: 79 seats in a 78 (non-Pace)
in Forum: C3 Interior
I've had my 78 Silver anniv for about 6 months and would like to put the 79 style seats in. I'm having a hard time deciphering from the archives whether this is doable without significant modification or not (i.e. does the bottom plastic shell bolt onto my existing seat frame?)? I'm looking at some mounted seats by Willcox and would certainly like to know what I'm getting into before shelling out the $. Thanks for any input or clarification. I'm somewhat of a novice, especially with interior restoration, etc.
Maybe someone else can speak more authoritatively on the subject, but considering the influence the bean counters have at GM (they would have killed the Corvette altogether if they could have), it seems likely the two seats would share the seat track assemblies. Chevrolet had a tough enough time justifying the money making the change to a fastback rear window in '78 since most efforts were directed towards emission and saftey compliance throughout the industry at that time.

They are a direct fit.....
But on another note:
However ... the 79 seats do not have an adjustment for the angle on the seatback... SOB.... I run with a largre wrench wedged between the seat back and the bottom seat frame...
Ran into a guy selling a adjuster that could be added to these seats years ago in Carlisle.....
Does anyone know of a source for these anymore....
Just curious...

That's a new one! I'm pretty sure there were not two different floors for the different seats. Too much $$ involved for that to be true. I do believe the seats themselves sit a wee bit higher in the car, tho.

And...then again......I was wrong once..........once.

I have never seen different floor pans in any of the catalogs. I don't believe that's the case.
Joel, I have a similar conversation and similar reaction with my Dad at a similar age. Are we brothers????
