Look on the trim tag, just forward of the driver's door, riveted to the A pillar/cowl. It will have a date of assy. code, and paint/interior codes. Your's('81) will probably have paint over it.

btw..your's won't look exactly like this one, but it will be located in the same place. It's the quickest example I could post. There are other threads with pics of late car trim tags.

Yours will look more like this one.

The Corvette Black Book lists Camel or Dark Red as the GM recommended interior colors for your car.

64C for Camel cloth; 642 for Camel leather
74C for dark red cloth; 742 for dark red leather.

Your original interior color will be on the trim tag on the driver's hinge post.

While the colors were the same, St. Louis and Bowling Green used different trim codes.  You might find 67C for dark red cloth and 672 for leather.  Bowling Green did not use the Mahogany, so you've got a St. Louis car.

Well...almost!
That looks like some kind of red...dark red. perhaps. The pic is only about a 1/4, "panoramic" view...

What does the trim tag have?

Pic looks like red leather to me.  Sunlight makes it appear a little orange.  Wheel has an aftermarket wrap on it.  Rear window defroster switch on the console; power door locks.

Vette(s): 2004 Commemorative Edition Coupe, Auto w/HUD. 13K miles in 2015. Sold 1982 Red Coupe

Usually the problem with red interior is the tendancy to fade, especially the carpet.

Look at a section that is protected from the sun. Might be a big difference.
