Is there a way to increase the fan speed and therefore volume of cold air in a 76? Several have told me that low air volume was standard in this model. My fan has three speeds, low, low- low medium - and hi low. The hi low is about what you wold expect on medium. My A/C unit is new and works fine except for the volume of cold air. Thanks !

You can change the squirrel cage out for one out of an '85-'86 model 'Vette, but you have to space the motor out a bit from the firewall. They do blow tons more volume, tho.
Other than that, just make sure all of the duct-work is sealed well, and there is no trash(leaves, etc.) down in there that restricts the flow.

Does it have a high? Mine uses a relay that comes in when switched to high found on the side of the AC box under the hood. It directs the full 12 volts to the motor. Even if it is working correctlly you may want to do what Joel recommends. The fan is deeper so it will move more air but you need to space the motor out about 3/4" with a spacer.

I bought a "squirrel cage" for my vette awhile ago to get a little more volume of air flow through the cabin. This is one of my to do projects over the winter, that was supposed to be done last winter.

I bought it from Ecklers. P/N 46026. (If I remember correctly)
It is made by Gilmore Products P/N 70-104
Replacement part for Everco P/N 2783
Replacement part for Murray P/N 209110
Fits 84-85 vette.
Blades are steel not plastic.
BTW, I did install a ball type shut off valve on the other heater hose. Man what an improvement for keeping the cabin a lot cooler this summer. I put it in near the heater core so it is out of sight but accessible by reaching under the side to open or close it.

Thanks for the good info about the fan speed on my 76. I discovered after re-checking everything that I had already done that the wire to the high speed fuse was broken. I spliced in a new fuse holder and now I have 4 speeds with a high that is sufficient to cool. Riding cool in Texas. Vettetex!

Lowes.
I had to thread in a couple male copper fittings into each end of the valve and then sweat a piece of copper pipe on each end, so I had something to slide the heater hose onto. Tight fit too.
Next time when I get the car up on the lift (which will be soon) I'll email you a pic of it installed if you'd like. It was a PITA to get it in there the way I wanted it. But it was worth the time and effort.

Hi Jerry.....
I love my new 25th emblem, looks so much nicer than the old one.
About your shut-off problem. I just purchased one at O'reilly auto parts here in Clinton MO and it looks very professional. You can mount it anywhere you like along the hose and it will be pleasant to look at. Just cut the hose, slip it into place and clamp it up; cost me eight bucks.
I'm getting ready to do a complete flush with new thermostat, all new hoses and of course the little 5/8's shut-off.
I sure wish my wife would make up her mind as to what type of digital camera she wants so I could send pic's.
If you can't find one in Tecumseh, pm me and i'll get you one here and send it up your way. They are well made and you will be pleased with the quality and the smallness of them. They are not big or bulky at all.
Take care......Rich

Thank's for the reply Rich. Glad you like the new emblem. Will pick up shut-off soon. Of course the way the weather is changing here in Mich., I just might need the heater...
