Hey folks,
I need a little help reassembling the shifter console components, specificallyl the ac/heater controls assembly. It's a 1975 4-speed with AC.
I took apart the console to install a new shifter boot and now when I put it back together the ac/heater controlls are not flushed up against the console plate. I never disassembled the controlls but did separate it from the mounting bracket. I can't tell if the bracket is bent or if I'm just putting it in wrong.
I've searched all over for a schematic of the center console to see if I have everything in the correct position but I'm coming up empty. Can someone help?

Vette(s): 1982 C3 Collectors Edition 44000 miles, sat in the sun most of its life, My wife purchased it for me for Father's Day in 2007 from her girlfriend that had it for 19 years. It is on the road again. I'm retired but it is now my daily driver.
I own a 82 so it is completely different but the assembly manual I purchased has come in real handy. I fount this on the net.
For $22 you cannot go far wrong. May be someone has a 1975 they can find the page that shows the assemble and get it to you. But I recommend getting your own for the complete car.
That whole arrangement is a royal PITA! The flimsy bracket will bend easily, and if it's not in exactly the right shape, the control won't fit right. First, make sure that you are using the right screws: they should be two beveled (counter sunk) sheet metal screws. If they've got a rounded head, they won't work.
Try taking the bracket (with the control mounted with the two screws) and bending the lower right and left corners downward, such that it will sit higher in the console when you place it back in. If the shift plate doesn't sit tight on the control before you screw the shift plate down, bend them down a bit more.
If it helps, I had to do mine about ten times to get it right...

Try these: they were the only thing in my assembly manual that showed the A/C controls.
As far as I know, these old manuals are not copyrighted. That being said, if you're doing any amount of work,
you'd be wise to buy one. About $30 on eBay, and well worth it. You'll quickly figure out just how many parts
have been thrown out or "jury rigged" over the years!

This should do the trick. With a couple of inches of snow still on the ground and some more in tomorrow's forecast, I should have plenty of tome to sort this out. Thanks again,
