Thanks for the feedback on my replacement radio question.

The Alpine system was recommended to me. Does the Alpine require a new bezel? And if so, where would I get the new bezel? Did you have to go to a car stereo dealer and have them cut into the dash to install it?

I've been looking for a replacement radio for my 1980. I found a Kenwood radio with cassette that fits without having to change the bezel. I found a Sanyo with cassette and CD that's sold with a new bezel.

You'll need a new bezel. There are companies now selling pre-cut bezels with stereos already included, such as Sanyo, Kenwood and Blaupunkt. They're all fine stereos as well, and may save some hassle compared to obtaining and cutting a new bezel. That's a decision you have to make.

When I bought an Alpine for my '78, I had to buy a bezel (about $45) and cut it to fit. If these pre-cut bezels with installed stereos were available then, I may have gone that route, but maybe not, as I like the flexibility of picking the stereo I want as opposed to what limited selection is available with the prefabricated ones.

I bought a pioneer CD sound system for my 80 at Best Buy. Had them install it for about $130. Put new speakers in the front and used speaker boxes for the back. There is no depth in the back speaker mounting for any quality speaker to be installed. System cost about $600 installed and it sounds awsome. Looks good too.

Check out WWW.customautosound.com They have bezels with the stereo installed.
Their systems run around $400 to $500 bucks
They also have the bezel without the radio, but has been pre-cut for new type. $224.00 ! That's a lot of money. Or, you can order a replacement bezel from one of the Corvette suppliers, cost between $99 to $119.00 and cut it yourself. Go to a Circuit City or Best Buys, they'll make some good suggestions. You may decide to go with a package they offer. It all depends on what you want and what you want to spend.

there was a thread a few months ago (that I cant seem to find) where a member worked for a company that sold DIN bezels..

and they were realtively affordable when compared to a new OEM bezel..

anyway.. might be worth searching through the threads

found it

I couldn't find that ad, but Bair's has new clusters for your car for $95. Why cut the original when you can cut a replacement? Just a thought.
