I have seen a couple vettes (some here) with Autometer Gauges in the stock gauge location. I have a 68 and am very interested in doing this. At this time there is no interior in it and I was wondering what is required to put the gauges in, hopefully it will just require the dash pieces, or did you have to cut out holes in the gauges themselves to fit the Autometers? I am interested in replacing all the gauges (tach, speedo, oil, water, volt, clock, gas)

Is there a reason you want to replace?  I went all digital and this is a much nicer setup over the stock stuff because it elminates a lot of cabe drives and mechanical gauges.

If your goal is to get white faced gauges then I would suggest contacting this company that I found while doing some research online.  Turns out they do most of the gauges for the big supply houses.  They also do a lot of conversions and special builds.

I attempted to get them to be a C3VR sponsor, but had no interest because they were happy with the level of business they were currently doing and didn't need any more promotion.

It's not so much that I want to replace the guages it's that I don't have any interior or guages at the moment. I don't plan to restore my vette to stock as the body has seen better days. My plan is to make a true performance ride out of it. Details on all of that at a later date.

My opinion is that the stock gauges are adequate, but I imagine they will cost as much or more as Autometers and the Autometers are a little more pleasing to my eye. I don't think I will go with the white faces as I had those in my Jeep, I was thinking more along the lines of the Cobalt Series

I understand.  The problem your going to have is the gauge is a different size then the stock gauge.  so you will most likely need to make a backing panel to fit the face.  I here they are very close, but not quite perfect.  However I here the center console gauges will drop right in.  After that its just a mater of wiring them in.  When I did my digital dash even with all the wire work the hardest part of the whole thing was pulling everything apart and putting it all back togehter in the right order.

Aftershark, which digital gauges did you put in, and are you happy with them?  I am going to be doing that to one of my Vettes, and am just now doing the research on it. Thanks! d.

Ok, that's the info I was looking for. I thought if it would swap right in that the autometers would be the way to go. I may just go back to my original plan of using a C6 instrument cluster in a modified dash. Thanks.

I have the Dakota Digital system.  I have not fired them up as of yet.  I have all of the wiring done so I can connect everything to the ECU, but I have a few other systems to finish on the engine before It will be complete.

Other then the fact that you have to take the entire dash down to do the install, the system is straight forward and has way more +'s then the hassel to install.

Your c6 retro fit sounds interesting and will I think anything is possible that I belive is going to be a hugh challenge as most gauges, especially modern ones are specifically designed to work with todays electronic controls from the ECU.  There are specific voltages and electronic pulses so unless you can duplicate some of that I don't know if it will work.  The dakota piece is nice because it comes with their ecu to control everything.

IF you decide to do the C6 system keep us informed on the progress.

Yeah, you are right about the gauges running off the ECU. My plan is to use the new LS7 motor ( http://www.gmpartsdepot.com/store/product1.aspx?SID=2&Pr oduct_ID=1412&Category_ID=2&src=gglls7 ) in my buildup. This should provide all the necessary info to the gauges. I will be running a 6 speed manual which should also allow for speedo info. Don't expect anything soon, I have at least 2 years budgeted, but will provide info as i progress.
