My wife's uncle has a stock, original 1928 Ford Model A and he says basically the same thing whenever he sees a hot-rodded 1920's or 1930's car.
If you hold the title to the car that gives you the right to do anything to it that you want to. Stock, modified, custom - the choice is entirely yours.

I would agree with Norsky's assessment that owning the title pretty much entitles you to do whatever you want to the car. I can't answer for everyone, but the reason I didn't buy a C5 was because it doesn't look like a C3. Come to think of it, only one car looks like a C3. I think the C3 represents an era in production cars that is pretty much non-existent today. The design of the C3 is rivaled only by some of today's exotics (Ferrari and Lamborgini) as far as radical design. That being said, much of the technology on these cars is antiquated. I can understand and even appreciate the fact that you and others like you are out there to preserve the original car. And you are also correct when you say that, "There are some of us that really appreciate the classics." To imply that one of us that prefers to hot rod and modernize a classic is not among those is pretty far off base. There is a saying among the Jeep crowds that "Real Jeeps are built not bought." In my opinion, the same holds true for Corvettes. Your opinion might be different, and that is what makes a place like these forums so good. There is a mix of differing opinions, and who's to say one is right or wrong? Anyway, keep the shiny side up....

But its like a double sided coin. Every car that people mess with just makes the value of mine go up. Hey its a better investment then the market!! |
This may be true, however, I can pretty much say with confidence that a 1979 Corvette will never make a mega-investment, ever. At least, I've never seen a '79 go for $30k. <shrug>
