I'm getting ready to install a complete set of new red carpet in my 80 coupe. I ordered a roll of 1/2" underlayment from JC Whitney and was wondering if anyone else had used this stuff. With this being half an inch thick will it affect the installation at all? Do I need to use some type of spray adhesive between the carpet and padding or between the padding and the floor? If so, any suggestions as to what brand? Also, the carpeted pieces on the side of my console keep falling down. Do I need some type of clips to hold them up? I just bought the car a couple of weeks ago (price-$5000) and I knew it was going to need some work, so any help and/or advice I can get is greatly appreciated. (I also need a decent used steering wheel, sun visors, windshield trim, inside mirror, etc. etc.) Thanks.....

You shouldn't have any problems with the 1/2" underlay with the carpet on top.  My heat/sound protection is 1/2" and carpet is 1/2" also.  No problems with mine.  Your console should have 'underlayment' then carpet.  They are held by three(3) screws for each side.  Total 6.    I believe the majority of the people use 3M Adhesive.  Sprayed on bottom of carpet and floor.

Try looking for your items on our Forum Sponsers.   They will also help you locate and have advise also.

Good Luck.

I couldn't find anything for the pieces on the sides of the console to attach to, but I'll have to take another look. Thanks for the reply. As soon as the temperature drops out of the 90s I'll get going on the carpet replacement........

contact muptor@hotmail.rr.com for any part you need. they are a corvette salvage company in Waco ,Texas owned by Mark Uptor. You will be contacted back by a lady named Brandy in a few days. Just tell them your vette's year aqnd what parts you are looking for. Their prices are very reasonable and tell you the condition of the parts, plus answer any of your questions.

Vette(s): Silver '81 mostly original C3. Silver interior, bilstiens, big sway bars, headers.
I can send you sum pix (jpg) of the bits the console side pieces attach to. Had mine off recently (just had to know what was in there!) and took lots of pix for when I got into truble putting things back together.    Mine's an '81, but I do not expect there to be any difference. Email me direct on cdowns@clear.net.nz if you would like them. Cheers, Chris.

I used a product from Lowe's called foil, double bubble, foil.  And that is exactly what it is, one layer of relatively strong foil, two layers of bubble wrap and another of foil.  It is absolutely outstanding and far less expensive than anything else.  This product is used for insulation in steel buildings but it certainly keeps the heat out of the drivers compartment of both of my C-3's.  And it does not burn at all.  Try it.
